Our county had mandatory recycling, but it went bust after a few months because people began spiking their "contributions" in a mass protest against the plan. Things are much better now that it is voluntary again.

Not that I would condone placing foreign material in with one's recycling, but there sure were a lot of road-killed possums mixed in with the recyclables! It was beautiful.

I honestly don't think government should even consider providing anyone with, well, anything. No, not even needs. Government, in a free society, will only be involved with stopping people from preventing other people from meeting their own needs.

In other words, we NEED food. But there's NO way that government should provide food to anyone, ever. If one person tries to take another's food, that's when government should step in.

So I'm right there with you, Daryl, but I'd got a lot further. Getting government to stop providing wants would certainly be a good start!

It's absolutely amazing the fawning over an empty suit. Then again, when you're the media and you shun God, you have to worship something. Obama IS their god.

The most basic analysis of the problem quickly reveals that we no longer have leaders that have the capacity to distinguish between a "want" and a "need". The functional requirements for any government revolves around satisfying the peoples basic needs (ie fire departments, defense, etc). No governent should EVER be involved in trying to satisfy allaour WANTS. There will always and forever be those who wish to satisfy all their wants at the behest of the power of taxation. That is a patently wrong and evil idea. No one should ever be placed under the threat of jail time for not paying their taxes so someone else can satisfy their wants, especially when it gets used for such stuff as public artwork. America has a great private ssector, and these wants are great places to spend the money we make, IF WE WANT to, but it is NOT the governments right to tax me, or anyone else, for frivilous wants.

We of course have a problem with revenue collections for the government in the fact that they collect way too much (far more than required to satsfy our "needs", but the far bigger problem is that we have a spending problem of gargantuan proportions, trying to satisfy every "want" we coulkd ever dream of. The kid in the candy store mentality of our "leaders" is killing us, and our country.

Thanks for stopping by, Sarah. However, sending the child to school WILL quickly result in seizure of the child by the state. Again, this is the state of Texas, where they have already illustrated that if the state thinks you're "different," they WILL take your children from you without a trial, jury, or even any due process at all. If the parents send the child to school, I bet the school would send him home. If the parents sent him to school again, social services would seize him from the school. If the parents didn't send him to school, social services would seize him from their home.

It's a bad situation, made worse because of government.

I applaud your opinion here.

I wanted to comment that one way to avoid the seizure of the child is to ignore the rule and send the boy to school. No doubt he will not be allowed (because of said ridiculous rule) and likely suspended or expelled. In any case, the parents will have done right by attempting to send the child to school. At this point I would hope the parents would claim to be home-schooling until a verdict was reached in the court system. Although this may not even be necessary if he was expelled - I don't know.

Also, he should be able to claim a religious exemption, not that it alleviates the root of the problem which you spoke of.
