Once again this year, the wonderful Cathouse Chat will be hosting the Carnival of Christmas. If you get a chance and you’re so inclined, please do head on over and see what it’s all about and consider making a post just for the carnival. It’s going to be a big one, so be sure you also leave a little time to head back and read it later on!

I know many people are waiting on the edge of their seat for the new savior of the world, Obama, to start implementing his plans for “change.” In fact, I bet a lot are clamoring for Obama to take over before his coronation. But just be sure you understand what’s important to Obama.
He wants to increase government spending by a few hundred billion dollars — and he’s swearing he’s not going to raise taxes at all. He wants to have a new New Deal program and directly hire over 2 million people to work for the US government. He also wants to give away hundreds of billions in cash to people, calling this new welfare program a “stimulus.”
But wait, there’s more! The Democrats will ensure that as Obama is stepping down from the royal coronation platform in January, they will have new bills for him to sign! He will spend even more, in addition to the hundreds of billions described above! Yes, the new savior will provide universal health care overnight to everyone who “needs” it. And even more, he will make Christopher Reeves walk again and save everyone because he’s spend even MORE billions on killing babies with government money so they can research on embryonic stem cells (which has resulted in, well, absolutely no help to anyone, anywhere, in any medical manner).
Just so you people who voted for Obama understand what he’s really going to do now. Many of us who actually researched the candidates already knew long ago.

It seems that the US government will be working hard to interfere with the free market to ensure that “black Friday” is a success — for businesses, never mind the working people. Tens of billions more of cash is being handed out by the government to, well, any company the government likes. Once again, if you’re a responsible working person, you will PAY for this total destruction of capitalism.
But you just sit back and watch the news and buy your presents (for CHRISTMAS, by the way). Watch the reports that claim it’s the end of the world and government needs MORE cash to “help” companies who aren’t making money.
The idea of freedom and capitalism only exists in the minds of people in America today.

Ah, Thanksgiving. Yes, the day to celebrate the Pilgrims and Indians getting along and celebrating a new harvest. No, I’m not going to go into a debate about socialism, nor about “repression” of the natives. Instead, I’m going to celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional manner.
I’m going to enjoy time with family and friends. I’m going to watch the Thanksgiving Day parades this morning — with family and friends. We’re going to set aside some time to talk about all the many, many blessings we have and all the things we are thankful for this year. And yes, we’re going to thank God for all the many things He has provided for us, including the wonderful turkey and the pumpkin pie.
After the food, I will plop myself down in front of the TV to watch the football games and the lunatics that pass for announcers. Again, we’ll be spending more time with family and friends, still being thankful that we have a TV and that we have the time and ability to watch it on this day.
Good reader, I thank you for stopping by today. And I hope you have a good Thanksgiving Day and that the turkey left you lots of nice presents.

So, are you rich or irresponsible? Did you take out a mortgage that you cannot pay? Did you default on your loans for any reason at all? Or are you a member of the influential rich that America simply cannot live without? Do you travel in luxury corporate jets to lobby Congress for free cash? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you get a huge cash payout from government for Thanksgiving! Congratulations.
Of course, if you are responsible, if you work hard, if you have started selling things you own to meet your obligations, well, you get nothing, as usual. Actually, you get worse than nothing, because you get to pay for all these other slimy people and the government handouts.
The message is very clear from the US government: if you work hard, you WILL be punished. If you are responsible, you WILL pay, literally. I can only wonder how long it will be before there’s not enough people left who are willing to work. After all, with each passing day the cash and other incentives for NOT working continue to grow. Government is making it more and more tempting, and more and more rewarding to be a bum and a government dependent.

Taxes are quite an interesting subject today. While Obama angers the left with his claims that he won’t dare actually increase taxes anywhere, anytime, for anyone (well, except for “the rich” which actually means anyone who PAYS taxes), others are not so devious. Chris Fitzsimon says that we cannot raise taxes high enough or fast enough in North Carolina.
He says that the new NC governor, Purdue, needs to get to work quickly to start planning to raise taxes a lot, and fast! He celebrates the idea that state spending has increased by over 40% in the last decade. He thinks that’s absolutely wonderful and if we work hard that spending can increase even more! He thinks that the primary purpose of government is to provide for people: jobs, medicine, free education for life, etc.
This is just to let you know what a “progressive” is in North Carolina. There are a large number of people, mostly Democrats, who really and truly hate freedom. They hate that you work and earn money, and their primary desire is to take the work you do and convert it into thing they want to make themselves feel good. No, they won’t use their own money to “help” people (at least their version of help: slavery), but they will use force to take your earnings to do what they desire.
These are truly evil people, no matter how nice they sound, nor how good their intentions. They want to expand government on your backs, period. They measure their own success in numbers of people who are slaves and utterly dependent on government. These people are, honestly, the enemy that’s referred to when people are sworn in where they claim they will defend the Constitution against all enemies, “foreign and domestic.”

So, are you one of those people who still believes the high school civics lesson that says America has a government “by the people and for the people?” Now while that may have been true over 100 years ago, that simply is not the case today. If you don’t believe me, just ask the City of Concord, NH and City Solicitor Paul Cavanaugh. They actually are claiming that it’s unconstitutional for citizens to change the city charter.
No, really.
They have asked a Superior Court to stop a vote, scheduled for November, 2009, in which the citizens want to change the city charter. Mr. Cavanaugh actually claims that the citizens making a change is unconstitutional. I’m not sure which copy of the Constitution that Mr. Cavanaugh has, but I have never seen one that says, “No Citizen Shall be allowed to change this.” Well, I suppose Chavez’ might say that.
Of course, what’s really at issue here is power. The people of Concord want to limit tax increases. The city simply will not stand for that. And the city — AND IT’S EMPLOYEES will do anything they can to retain their power to take as much money as they personally want from the subjects of the city.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Did you know that if you live in New York City and you happen to take pity on a homeless person (maybe because it’s 10 degrees outside) and you let them inside to shelter from the cold, you might just go to jail. Again, really. The city has decided that they will arrest and jail you if you shelter the homeless from the cold. Why? Because the city wants to do it (so they can get cash and provide “proof” that they need MORE cash).
Isn’t a great that we have so much government with so many employees that they have time to fine, arrest, and jail people for helping others? And guess what? These people are actually proud of the job they’re doing. I wonder if they will feel any emotions at all when homeless people die on the streets because these government employees forced people to close their doors to them. I bet they don’t because like so many, they’ll just claim, “I’m just doing my job” — no matter how much freedom is destroyed, nor how many people die.

Public employees lack Constitutional rights.
So, what do you think of that statement? Do you think that when you accept employment from the government that you no longer have Constitutional Rights? Do you read something into the Constitution that says “All people have these rights except government employees?”
Well, the East Brunswick High School district agrees with that first statement. And so does the Americans Who Despise Religious People (aka American United for Separation of Church and State). These groups honestly believe that you surrender Constitutional rights simply by being employed by government. And yes, they have found judges that actually agree with them. The case has now gone to the Supreme Court, who will rule on whether or not you surrender Constitutional Rights by being employed by the government.
Of course, this is just a nasty side effect of huge government. If there were not so many government employees, as the founders intended, then this would never be an issue. And yes, I am implying that there should not be government employees in the school system. Does anyone actually believe for a minute that if government didn’t run schools that there would be no education? In reality, if government stopped paying for education systems, the economy would explode as thousands of new businesses opened and education actually worked. But tell that to the teacher’s unions, and they’ll kill you — because they’re in business to ensure that they stay employed, no matter the cost.

Yes folks, your new president has absolutely promised a chicken in every pot — and he doesn’t care how much money he has to spend to do it. As usual, the only solution the liberals offer to any problem is more government. Remember the first time this was promised, it screwed the country for over 100 years. Stay tuned, things are certain to get worse!
I wonder how Obama plans to PAY for the 2.5 million people he’s going to personally hire in the next few years.

So, if you’re not in New York city this article may have missed your notice. It’s a horrible article, predicting the worst times in New York City, well, ever. You see, the article points out that there might be some cuts in Subway services. The article spends a great deal of time predicting how bad things will get. It goes on to describe how certain train services might be cut and how there will be reduced services for subways at night. It screams about the 1,500 jobs that are about to be cut.
Then, a little more than halfway through the article, the reporter happens to claim that all this horribleness will be reality — UNLESS the government enacts a new $715 million tax.
This article is NOT a news article. It’s a promotion piece for the government. There is absolutely no attempt at any sort of balanced journalism. There is no reporting of factual information. There is no reporting from anyone remotely interested in what might happen if government actually got smaller. This is a clearly biased piece designed ONLY to promote higher taxes. An experienced marketing and public-relations firm could not have done a better job to convince people to support higher taxes.
And this “reporter” has received 2 Emmy awards for his “work.”
It is truly sad what passes for “journalism” today. Then again, if you don’t support massive government today, you’re a “subversive” and might even be thrown in jail. Get used to it, people. Surrender or plan on spending time in jail. I’m just wondering how long before I end up there myself.

Interesting exit interview results regarding why people didn’t vote for the other guy. I haven’t completely examined the list, but it sure looks like, at first glance, the primary reasons people didn’t vote for McCain was because he’s old, he’s Bush, and Obama is “change.” And the primary reasons people didn’t vote for Obama was because of his positions on issues, his socialist positions, and because he wasn’t experienced.
In other words, in true American political fashion today, people voted for Obama solely for emotional reasons, while people voted for McCain because of substantial issue disagreements. This is more evidence that we need LESS people voting — and more educated people voting. I think the founders were right when voting was limited to landowners. And if we can’t go that far, at least limit voting to those who actually paid taxes in the last year…

A few days ago I mentioned the Merry Tossmas idea of refusing to buy from merchants who refuse to admit that Christmas exists. That post also pointed to a list where you can see which catalogs are supporting Christmas. Well, about 6 years ago, I bought everything for Christmas on-line, just to do it. So now I get literally hundreds of catalogs in the mail this time of year. And since the list I just referenced is a little short, I decided to add my own list.
I’ll use the same criteria as that list (and yes, all these are mail-order catalogs I’ve gotten in the mail in the past couple weeks):
“Christmas-Friendly” (A “Christmas” catalog or even a “Merry Christmas”):
Herrington
The Vermont Country Store
Russell’s For Men
L.L. Bean
The Smithsonian Catalogue
“Christmas-negligent” (Very little reference to “Christmas” In some cases, no reference to anything at all, just a catalog. In some cases, conflicting “Christmas” and “Holidays” references):
Mindware
Oriental Trading
Young Explorers
“Christmas-offensive” (Generally only references to the “Holiday” or “Season” with no notice of “Christmas”):
Personal Creations
Potpourri
Smart Miracles
Hammacher Schlemmer
The Swiss Colony
Collage Videos
Betty’s Attic
The Lighter Side Co
Scientifics
In The Company of Dogs
Lee Valley
Wine Country Gift Baskets
Signals
Southwest Indian Foundation
Company Kids
Herrschners
Signals
Wireless
Gardener’s Supply Company
Again, retailers, if you want my business, just admit that Christmas exists and stop calling it the “Holiday” catalog. Also, note I’m not promoting government use force for anyone to do anything. Instead, I’m just exercising my freedom of choice to choose to associate with those who are willing to associate with me.
