Where’s Ogre?

I’m not here. No, really, I’m not. As this is being posted on Monday morning, October 27th, I’m actually far, far away… well, far away from where I normally am, and nowhere near things like the intertubesnet. Right now I’m in Kenya. Yes, Kenya, Africa, home of Obama. Nope, I’m not campaigning or electioneering for Obama. Instead, I’m on a mission trip to help out some people who just plain need help. I’ll be there for another week, so sorry for not giving immediate updates on freedom.

In the meantime, the Most Important Election In The History Of The World (TM) continues, I’m sure. I’m so happy that I’m missing the horrible lies that are sure to be scattering across the airways in the form of “political advertising.” But I can bet I’m having a lot more fun NOT seeing ANY election coverage at all. I’m actually writing this long before I leave for Kenya, but if our schedule holds, as you read this I’ll be working at building a stone wall where someone will soon live. :)

Keep stopping by, as the cartoons and silly stuff will post daily here until (and after) my return.

Free Market

What free market? There is NO free market in America. If you think there is, I challenge you to LEGALLY sell anything, anywhere, without asking government permission and then giving government a bribe (tax). It simply cannot be done.

A Departing Ogre

By the time you read this, Ogre will be gone. No, not forever, much to the chagrin of Democrats and Socialists everywhere, just for a couple weeks. Ogre departs today for REAL Obama country — Kenya. And no, not on a political mission, because that would likely get me arrested and deported because I don’t love and worship Obama.

No, actually I’m headed to Kenya on a Christian mission trip. I’m going to help out some folks there that really need some help. I’ll be back after the elections, so I guess I’ll just have to miss the last couple weeks of “The Most Important Election In History (TM).” Gee, I’m so disappointed (NOT).

For those who were looking for witty freedom-loving commentary on the election, sorry to disappoint you, but I think this is a bit more important than which socialist will lead the formerly free world for the next 8 or 12 years. Heck, there’s almost no difference between the two, so go ahead and vote the lesser of the two lessers if you want. I still suggest you vote for anyone but the Republican or Democrat. If you’re in North Carolina, hit the Libertarian button. There’s just no good reason not to. And Libertarians, unlike the other two parties, actually like freedom.

So I’ll be gone, but I’ve got silly stuff and political cartoons that will be posting here while I’m gone, so feel free to stop by. Realize I’m not here, so some of the cartoons might be a bit out of date, and if you do comment (please do, if you like), I just won’t be here to respond for awhile. Have fun, and if you need something to read, pick a random blog from my blogroll over there on the right — I approve of all of them!

Economic Falsehoods

I’ve been told, by those who have dealt with the media a lot, that when you read something that’s clearly biased and wrong, it’s usually not with bad intent. Instead, I’ve been assured, it’s because the reporter is either just plain lazy or a moron. You would think, however, that one David Whitfold, editor at large, of Fortune magazine would be neither. But that doesn’t explain why he can’t report the truth.

Mr. Whitford claims, while writing about Jefferson County’s impending bankruptcy:

But the saga of Jefferson County stands apart. Unlike previous municipal meltdowns, it is a financial disaster that was to a large degree invented, packaged, and sold by Wall Street.

That’s just plain not true. No one on wall street went to Jefferson County with a gun and pointed it at the politicians there and forced them to do anything. The ONLY people responsible for Jefferson County possibly going bankrupt are the politicians who voted to borrow money. That’s it, not another person is responsible. THEY agreed to borrow money and hoped they’d have the revenue to pay it back. That’s irresponsible. Wall street had and has absolutely nothing to do with this. If the politicians were fiscally responsible, they wouldn’t be borrowing money at all.

No, I don’t care if “that’s how it’s done.” If they’re responsible, they would spend within their means. If they hadn’t borrowed any money, there would be no problem today, there would be no “D” bond rating, and there would be no need to consider bankruptcy, period.

I know it’s fashionable to blame Wall Street (and Bush) for every little problem in the world today. But if you examine the facts, you’ll find that Wall Street didn’t cause these problems. In most cases, the source of all the current problems today is irresponsible people in government. And Mr. Whitford would know that, if he actually examined the facts before writing his story.

Universal Health Care Truths

Gee, what a shock. Government in Hawaii JUST discovered that socialized, universal, government health care is a total and complete failure. The fools in government that set this up were somehow shocked that a number of people, when they found out government was offering coverage for FREE, suddenly stopped buying health care and enrolled in the free system.

It’s amazing that there are still such incredibly foolish people in government positions. I’ll say it again for those (like Obama and all his supporters) that don’t understand: when you offer something at no cost to the recipient, MORE PEOPLE WILL WANT IT. It really doesn’t matter what it is. If you open up a stall on the street and offer ANYTHING for free, people will show up and get as many as you will give them. It doesn’t matter if it’s gasoline, health care, jobs, or toothpicks. If it’s at zero cost, people WILL want more of it.

This is the primary reason that “universal” healthcare not only has failed every time it’s been tried, but it absolutely WILL continue to fail. In health care, there needs to be a cost to the user. If there isn’t, you get the nightmare that is healthcare in Canada — waiting times of years for minor problems because the demand is high. If you charge money for it, less people will use it, period.

This works with everything. Recently, there were gas shortages in the southeast and many gas stations in the Charlotte area ran out of gas. Want to know why? Nope, it had NOTHING to do with the hurricane. It was because of government. Governor Easley threatened to arrest and jail any gas station that raised their prices. Therefore, the price of gasoline was kept artificially low. People did what the always do when something is offered at a lower price than the market can bear — they bought as much as they could as often as they could. That caused the companies to run out of gasoline.

The free market will work — and it has worked every time it’s tried. At the same time, government regulated markets always fail — look at the banks and mortgage markets — those were all completely artificial markets, created by government and look how they turned out.

Oh, how I yearn for freedom!

Democrat Fairness

So, what does a Democrat mean when they say they want things to be “fair?” Of course, that means they want to win, no matter how it happens. Take, for example, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. She claims that if you attempt to identify a voter, that’s “disenfranchising voters.” And this is after her office has identified at least 200,000 voter records who are inaccurate.

Yes, you’re reading that correctly. Her very office reported that at least 200,000 voter registration records appear to be inaccurate — but any attempts, including judicial orders, that actually attempt to FIX those records, or identify which are fraud and which are valid voters, is “disenfranchising voters.” Welcome to 1984 — land of political lies.

NC Property Rights

Hey folks, if you’re in North Carolina and are interested in your property rights, please do check out the recently released Property Rights voter guide. All candidates were send a survey to determine if they care about individual property rights. Personally, I would consider a “NR” as “I hate personal freedom and property rights.” Maybe that candidate doesn’t, but it sure looks like they’re hiding something.
