Buying American

Recently, I mentioned my intentions to buy American Beer. I got a lot of great suggestions on beers to try from my wonderful readers (that’s you). Thank you for those. And if I can, I’ll head to the North Carolina Hot Sauce Contest to try some more (beers and hot sauces).

Now I’ve avoided buying Chinese made goods for a long time. I do not like their government policies, and I do my best not to support them. I don’t often make public declarations of my personal boycotts, because I know most companies don’t care — but it makes me feel better about myself. For example, I boycotted Ford when they were supporting radical homosexuals. And I’m currently boycotting McDonalds and Disney because of their open and direct support of radical homosexuals. But more than that, today I want to buy more American-made goods.

To meet my criteria, the company has to be American. For example, the recent Citgo ads are horribly misleading. They are running TV commercials that attempt to tout the “American jobs” and “independent American owners” of the stations — while ALL the profits are going to Chavez and his oppressive thugs. Sorry, Citgo, I don’t that you’re employing a few Americans at minimum wage while you’re sending billions to crush freedom. That’s not working with me.

And Wal-Mart’s slogans don’t work on me, either. They buy the cheapest product, plain and simple. If you note their slogan it does say, “We buy American WHEN WE CAN.” In other words, when it will make them the most profit — which isn’t often. So don’t buy that line — check the labels. Check the molding. And be willing to pay a little more. I am.

At the same time, I realize that there are some things you just can’t buy American right now. Good luck trying to find any electronics parts made completely in American. It’s just not happening.

Also keep in mind, I’m doing this because I’m free. I’m not trying to use the force of government to force anyone else to do anything. I’m willing to pay more for goods that are made completely in America. If you’d like to join me in supporting what’s left of this country, here’s a few ways you can:

First, there’s a book. Now I haven’t read this book, so I can’t talk about what it’s worth. But it’s there if you want it.

Need some boots? Try American Work Boots. I’m an office worker, so I don’t have a need for boots often. When my current ones do wear out, I will be contacting these folks. I’ve bookmarked them in a folder just for American made stuff.

These folks have lots of American-made clothing. I look forward to picking out some stuff from there soon.

Finally, there’s Peterboro Basket Company. I’ve decided that this year, that’s where most of my Christmas gifts will come from (that I purchase).

So if you know of other places that sell things that are completely, 100%, American-made, feel free to drop them into the comments and I’ll keep the list going!

Lost Theatre Found

This is just neat. It’s a story about archaeologists who found what appears to be Shakespeare’s first stage.

“It’s a theatre that’s been known about for a long time but no remains have ever been found,” museum spokesman Tim Morley told AFP.

Isn’t that just neat? Well, I guess you have to like history and appreciate Shakespeare to find it neat, but I do…

Child Porn: Legal

Well, at least it is according to Fremont County Judge Timothy O’Grady. Mr. O’Grady, a judge, thinks that 12-year old girls dancing naked in a smoke-filled barroom while men drink beer and stare is just fine. He thinks that the activity of little underage girls prancing about with sexually suggestive moves in front of old perverted men is a “constitutionally protected activity.”

I just don’t even know how to answer that without violating a lot of laws myself. I’m going to make a guess that Mr. O’Grady doesn’t have any children, much less any female children. It’s bad enough that we have “people” who want to use and abuse young children sexually. Now this judge has made it legal to do everything but actually have sexual contact with them. I understand that there are people in this world that have an incredibly warped sense of right and wrong — I just wish those people weren’t judges.

I wonder how this person goes home at night and says, “Oh, I had a good day today, honey. I made sure it was legal for 14-year old girls to be strippers.” I don’t understand how he can sit up and actually DEFEND his actions. Well, I suppose if he were a member of NAMBLA, then it would make sense.

I don’t know the laws in Iowa. I don’t know how judges are placed on the bench. But if there’s any sense of justice left in Iowa (and no, I don’t really think there is) then the people should rise up and get this man out of his office. He belongs in a psychiatric ward, not judging laws for America.
