Busy, busy

Sorry to those of you looking for wonderful, insightful posts about freedom today. I’ve been crazy busy beating my head against a wall trying to get Linux working in all my free time. I think I’m making progress, but I’m not really sure.

I’ll have good stuff coming soon — including my official endorsements for all the statewide NC races and other races in and around Iredell and Mecklenburg county. If you have a local race you want me to take a look at, be sure and mention it, and I’ll see if I can find someone worth endorsing!

Charlotte Knights Baseball

Well folks, I’m off to watch some baseball. Today is the “Businessman’s Special” — well, it used to be. That’s a “politically incorrect” term, so it’s just a day game.

Anyway, I’m off to watch the Businessman’s Special baseball game. Sunny and 50 degrees with 20mph winds. Oh, this is going to be fun!

Chuck Baldwin for President?

So, did you hear the news? Alan Keyes didn’t get the nomination from the Constitution Party — Chuck Baldwin did. I know, Chuck who? Well, if you’re a regular reader here, I’m sure you’ve seen quotes and links to his writings. He IS a Constitutionalist. How about this platform:

Baldwin said his presidency would result in the ending of illegal immigration, abortion, the streamlining of the federal government, the tapping of oil reserves in Alaska and withdrawal from Iraq.

He pledged not only to pull out of the United Nations, but to push the international organization out of New York.

He said he would phase out the Internal Revenue Service and end the paying of personal income taxes. He said the country should return to the gold standard.

Home schoolers, he said, would have the best friend they ever had in the White House.

Man, what’s not to like? Not that I’ll get to vote for him because North Carolina government prefers to select who you are permitted to vote for and he hasn’t received approval from the government. But look at the contrast:

Ending ILLEGAL immigration:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain, Obama, Hillary: No, increase it.

End Federally-approved abortion:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain, Obama, Hillary: No.

Drill in Alaska for oil:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain, Obama, Hillary: No.

Reduce Taxes:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain: No; Obama, Hillary: Increase Taxes a LOT.

Get Out of the UN:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain, Obama, Hillary: No.

Support Homeschooling:
Baldwin: Yes; McCain, Obama, Hillary: No way.

He should win, but I know he doesn’t have a chance. Instead, way too many people would prefer government punish producers so they can get cash for nothing. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Ron Paul in North Carolina

Two Chances To See RON PAUL In North Carolina

… THE MOVEMENT HAS JUST BEGUN! …

Dr. Ron Paul Is coming to North Carolina this Friday May 2, 2008 for
two public events. He will be speaking first at UNC-Chapel Hill in the
afternoon, from 3:30-5:00 PM. Later, he will speak in the early
evening at Duke University in Durham, from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Dr. Paul’s campaign effort is not just about the Presidency.
Supporters understand that he has helped spark a movement to restore
the Republic to a true Constitutional basis. Thus, at each venue Dr.
Paul will be conducting a book signing of his most recent book, The
Revolution: A Manifesto.

The 3:30 PM event will be at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Carrol Hall, which
seats about 500 people. Parking is very limited, so come early. The
UNC event is free; however, ticket reservations need to be placed at:

http://www.vernonrobinson.com/lists/lt.php?id=YxoBVwdVA1MaBgYfAAsIDQw%3D

For driving directions, a map of the UNC-CH campus and parking areas,
see:

http://www.vernonrobinson.com/lists/lt.php?id=YxoBVwdVA1waBgYfAAsIDQw%3D

The 6:30 PM event will be held at Duke’s Reynolds Theater (in the
Bryan Student Center), which accommodates about 600 people. Parking is
easy, as there is a parking deck adjacent to the student center and
theater. This promises to be a very special event, because Dr. Paul is
a graduate of the Duke Medical School.

Tickets for the Duke event can be picked up for free from the
Reynolds Theater box office in the Bryan Student Center. Reserving
online will guarantee a seat for those unable to pick up tickets in
person beforehand. Online reserved tickets cost $3 dollars since the
university box office charges for processing electronic ticketing. No
portion of this money goes to Dr. Paul.

See the following weblink for Duke Reynolds theater ticket
reservations, and click the icon that reads “All Events” to see
the listing for Dr. Paul’s talk. This webpage also has a link to a
campus map, at the top right hand corner. Look for the Bryan Center
building because Reynolds Theater is inside the Bryan Student Center.

www.tickets.duke.edu/

This website will give you traveling directions to the Duke venue:

http://www.vernonrobinson.com/lists/lt.php?id=YxoBVwdVA10aBgYfAAsIDQw%3D

Please note that these events occur during finals week at both UNC-CH
and Duke, and officials at both campuses have asked that we respect
their need for quiet and order during this time. We are working to
arrange a location (likely between UNC-CH and Duke) for public
displays of affection for Dr. Paul and his message of hope. Details
will be forthcoming as available.

Don’t miss this chance to hear Dr. Paul in person … Hope to see
you all there!

More McHenry vs. Sigmon

Apparently this past Saturday was a Congressional district convention. I don’t know how you were supposed to know about it because last I read on the NC GOP’s web site, this Congressional convention had already happened. That stinks, because I would really have been there if I had known. I guess if you want to do anything in politics, you really do have to know the right people to even find out about such events. I guess something like a mailing to the registered Republicans in the district is asking too much.

Anyway, apparently Lance Sigmon and Patrick McHenry had a debate. I found out because I received an e-mail titled, “McHenry Wins Debate.” I thought that would be neat, but then I noticed the return address: McHenry for Congress. Oh, that’s going to be a good article, isn’t it? Well, after reading the article, I quickly turned on the news to see when McHenry was going to announce his retirement. You see, in the e-mail, McHenry says,

When the moderators asked Lance Sigmon if he would support our Republican nominee for Congress, he said, “absolutely not.” He would prefer to divide the Party and help elect a liberal.

Lance Sigmon failed the test, and his answer was met with thundering boos from the Republican activists.

When Congressman McHenry was asked the same question, he didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” said the Congressman. “Not only will I endorse our nominee, I’ll campaign for him. I’ll donate money to him.”

If McHenry is THAT interesting in just getting a Republican elected, no matter who it is, since Sigmon already has supporters and Mr. Sigmon didn’t agree, then McHenry should immediately quit and start supporting Sigmon. Logically that’s the only conclusion one can garder from that sort of statement.

But what’s more troubling to me is that McHenry seems to actually think that the Republican Party is the party of conservatives. I think McHenry is living on another planet. While John McCain is a Republican, he does not hold conservative values. Or, I should say, if the word Conservative had any meaning that would be true. You see, today’s political world is so screwed up that words like “conservative” really don’t have an absolute meaning. Instead, that word means whatever the speaker wants it to mean — including massive, huge expansions of government power and control.

So Congressman McHenry wants a Republican victory at any cost. I’m sorry, I’d rather lose than elect big government types. And further, I view political parties as a vehicle to advance my ideas — not as supreme to ideas. McHenry, and most party activists, would prefer winning first, coming up with and dealing with ideas second. And this, I believe, is one of the biggest problems with the two-party system we’re left with in America today.

Why Linux Isn’t Popular

Most people realize that there’s really two ways you can go with your computer — Linux or Windows. And no, I’m not discounting Macs, that’s just a different machine. However bad it might be, Windows is currently the most popular operating system in existence. Despite all Apple’s attempts to gain ground on the bug-filled Vista, Windows still wins. Sometimes Linux people try and get people to try Linux. “It’s better” they say — and they’re right. But it just won’t work for today’s computer illiterate people. Windows is DESIGNED for people who don’t know what they’re doing. But here’s my experiences with Linux, just today:

Oh, and keep in mind, this is the experiences from someone who has been working with computers since the first PC’s. I used to write programs in Basic and was impressed with the release of Basica. I had one of the first portable computers, the PCJr. Packed in it’s suitcase, I think it weighed 50 pounds. And I’ve been networking and programming computers for over 20 years. Still, this is my experience with Linux (and this is not the first time I’ve used Linux, just the most recent).

Sigmon vs. McHenry, Round ??

The massive battle for the 10th Congressional district continues. Now, apparently, Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) is threatening to sue his challenger!

In case you missed it, his challenger, Lance Sigmon has posted an ad that claims McHenry may have violated Espionage laws. McHenry, to my knowledge, has never once denied ANY of the statements made by the Sigmon campaign. Instead, McHenry is threatening to sue for “Defamation.” I wonder why McHenry is threatening to sue and isn’t actually suing. Is it perhaps because his case has no basis?

Stay tuned, just a couple more weeks of this craziness in this election. I still suggest voting for Lance Sigmon, if you have the option. And heck, it’s North Carolina, so anyone who wants to, citizen or not, can come to NC and vote. McHenry got some votes from TN students last election. Feel free to show up, give and address, register and vote. That’s how elections work in NC today.

We Get Comments

Everyone who’s ever had a blog likes to get comments. I mean, if you didn’t get comments, well, things would be a bit boring, right? We, a couple days ago, I posted about the TX Polygamy raids. Gwen had a rather long, detailed comment and I wanted to respond. But my response was going to be rather long, so I decided to put it here in a main post. All quoted sections in this post are the commenter’s words:

In regards to the use of the APC and being well prepared with men and ammunition, there is a fairly easy response. After what happened at Waco, authorities wanted to be prepared for all eventualities. This is a walled compound and they had no idea of the reception they would receive and so they were prepared for all eventualities. Authorities have the right to protect themselves too.

Gwen? Do you have ANY clue what actually happened at Waco? That’s when the government went in an murdered dozens of people who never fired a shot. It’s quite easy to “avoid” another Waco — don’t send armed government agents to attack people on private property. In addition, these people CLEARLY knew what they were getting into. The police knew what sort of “resistance” was going to be faced — the same they ALWAYS face with LDS — none. It was wrong and overkill.

These people were not ‘invaded’.

Yes they were. If you don’t accept that concept, you don’t accept the concept of private property and you cannot accept any concepts related to freedom. There was zero evidence of any breaking of laws except one phone call that was FAKE.

all they did was protect children.

Utterly insane. Using that definition, the police need to take ALL children from ALL parents because someone MIGHT do something wrong. And what about the children who are getting pregnant OUTSIDE the compound? Why aren’t they removed from their parents? If the “protection” here was against underage children getting pregnant, I think the TX police have A LOT more people that need to be “protected” — again, including everyone who goes to Planned Parenthood.

These people are being ’singled out’ as you put it, because this isn’t a girl going out and doing something stupid. This is girls being brainwashed and forced to break the law and essentially being sexually abused by men who are decades older then them. And the boys are being taught that this is okay.

“Brainwashed?” Have you been to a government school lately? With the definition of “brainwashed,” we cannot teach any child anything about, well, anything. And then every single religion in the world, including Islam and Global Warming, is “brainwashing” people and they all should be stopped. It is NOT the business of government to determine right and wrong — government is wholly incapable of doing that and they should not be doing that. What is it about the magic age of 18 that makes a girl perfectly okay to make all decisions for themselves? Can you tell me who is harmed when a 16-year old gets pregnant and then raises the child in a caring, loving home with a father?

This is not a healthy environment for kids. Try reading “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop, someone who left the FLDS community and describes exactly what goes on there.

I’m not defending the LDS. I have some friends who are LDS (sounds like I’m calling them ADD), and I know a bit about that church. In general, I think their religious beliefs are nuttier than a fruitcake. But I believe in freedom most of all. I believe people should be free to have their religion. And in a religion that’s not harming outsiders, I cannot see any right for the government to go in and stop them. It’s completely and totally wrong. What are you going to do when government decides that YOUR environment isn’t healthy for kids simply because they say so? These people were living in peace and not harming anyone. They absolutely, completely, should have been left alone. What the government is doing is causing A LOT more harm to these children than the LDS ever could have. Government has far overstepped it’s bounds, and it IS destroying people simply because of their religious beliefs, and that’s just wrong.

It also does not matter that the initial phone call was false.

That’s the worst, scariest part of the entire comment. Do you even realize what you’re saying there? You’re clearly saying that the fourth amendment to the US Constitution doesn’t exist. You’re saying that government can, at any time, and for literally any reason, invade anyone’s property and do what they want. If government wants to investigate someone and search their underwear drawer, they can, even if there’s no evidence. No, what government in a free society would need is concrete evidence and eyewitnesses who will stand up in court and face their accusers. Anonymous tips are absolutely horrible. If someone will not stand up in court and say that they saw something — and will face punishment if they lie — there should be NO government involvement at all.

Don’t let your apparent dislike for the LDS color your opinion. Again, if this were a free society, people would not be attacked, invaded, and arrested for their religion. Families would not be destroyed and hundreds of lives crushed by government because of religion. But that’s in a free country, not what we have in America today.

Government Economic Solutions

As I’ve mentioned before, government can only “solve” problems by making more problems. It’s not that government doesn’t understand the free market, it’s that they don’t like it.

So, since airlines are failing in record numbers, gas prices are still rising, driving all transportation costs even higher, what does government do? Raise the cost of flying by $3.5 billion. I’m really starting to think there is absolutely no hope for this government and it can only be “fixed” by destroying it completely.

McHenry Sets the Record Straight

I got an email yesterday with the “title, Help Me Set the Record Straight” from Congressman Patrick McHenry. This is in response to the recent ad from Lance Sigmon, his primary opponent. In the ad, Lance Sigmon suggests that it’s possible that McHenry broke various laws. So, McHenry wants to “Set the Record Straight.”

So, does McHenry deny breaking the law? Does McHenry even suggest he didn’t break the law? Incredibly, no. Instead, he has a video that says he’s above such discussions. He says he’d rather talk about taking money from working people to give to people who vote for him. It’s just beneath him to discuss criminal activity that he may or may not have participated in.

Having been in politics and seeing campaigns from the inside, I understand trying to stay “above the fray.” But if someone has been accused of criminal activity, to completely ignore that and not even make a feeble attempt to deny it, really does say a lot. Am I saying that McHenry broke the law? Well, I’m pretty sure he did, but in other cases, other than where Lance Sigmon points out. Did he break the laws Sigmon suggests he did? I have no idea — but McHenry has never once even mildly suggested that he did not.

Now I’m no fan of lawyers. In fact, I think that being a member of any bar association, or even having a law degree should automatically disqualify someone from holding any elected office. However, I’m willing to give Sigmon a chance. I know McHenry fails the Davy Crockett test. I don’t know if Lance Sigmon will — if he does, I’ll support his next opponent. In the meantime, I’m voting Lance Sigmon in the 10th Congressional District.

PA Election Results

So, did you see the results from PA? Again, NO, I’m not talking about the socialist vs. socialist election. Did you see the Republican results? Ron Paul got 15% of the vote. I know he can’t win at this point, but getting 15% of the vote certainly does tell me that there are still people out there who want freedom. Sure, it’s not a lot. No, it’s not the majority of people — the majority are perfectly happy having government take care of all their needs at the expense of freedom. But still — there ARE people besides me who honestly want to be free.

Once again I’ll mention The Free State Project. While that movement may have slowed down, it’s still progressing. In fact, today is when some members of that project are putting on an illegal puppet show. Oh, you didn’t know that SOME puppet shows are illegal and you can go to jail for a YEAR for putting one on? Well they’re working and fighting those insane laws because these people honestly want freedom. Now if we could just find a way to get all those who dislike freedom (socialists, environmentalists, communists, democrats, many Republicans) out of New Hampshire, it certainly would be a nice place.

Obama v. Hillary

No, this isn’t about whatever happen in PA yesterday. It really doesn’t matter. Instead, I’ve actually found a difference between Hillary and Obama that’s significant (other than that Hillary wants power to have power and Obama wants power to bring communism to America).

Hillary will actually use nuclear weapons if Israel is attacked with nuclear weapons. That’s really big. That’s the strongest statement of non-appeasement any Democrat has made in a long time.

On the other hand, Obama will not use nukes under any circumstances. So if Iran nukes Israel, Obama will talk to them. Maybe he’s not sell them US goods (what US goods do we export to Iran?). Maybe he’s seek a UN resolution against them.

So there is a difference in the candidates: Hillary will meet force with force. Obama will whimper and hide, hoping that Carter can negotiate peace for him.

Cash for Arts?

Oh, the poor “arts.” Museums and alleged “cultural institutions” are very upset! They’re greatly worried that the current economic slump will affect them! Oh, and they’re supposed to be above the rest of the world. After all, without the opera hall with the Vagina Monologues, you’d never get to see such utter flith. Err.. I mean “enlightening culture.”

First of all, they SHOULD suffer. I don’t know why they think that when everyone else has no money that they should continue operations as normal. Well, I do know why — because they’re so full of themselves and believe they are above things like economics, people, and reality. But entertainment SHOULD be the first thing to suffer when people don’t have extra cash. That’s why they call it “extra” cash.

On the other hand, there is NO WAY they will suffer! I don’t believe these whiny fools for a moment. I know how arts is funded everywhere I’ve ever seen — via government. And government, when economic times are bad, simple spends (and takes) MORE! So arts councils, just because you don’t have as much from ticket sales doesn’t mean a thing — just ask your governments for more cash (you can say it’s For The Children(TM) ) and government simply will take more from working and productive people and give it to you. After all, that’s what they’re doing themselves!
