Billions for Roads…and other stuff

Big government folks, selected by Democrats to promote big government, now are screaming that two BILLION dollars is “needed” for roads. And they’re suggesting a $2 billion bond package to pay for it.

What a total scam.

Is there a single person on the planet that actually believe that if the Democrats who run North Carolina (and have for literally over 100 years) get $2 billion that they’ll spend it on roads? They can’t spend GAS TAXES on roads! My guess is that if they get $2 billion, they’ll spend about $100,000 on roads. They’ll use the rest on lining their pockets, and then complain you need to re-elect them because they’re not done (screwing you) yet.

But I’d also bet they will put this bond on the ballot — and people will vote for it “because it’s for the roads.” And then the state will be in debt even more. So, why do we need $2 billion? Because the Democrats have been mismanaging money for decades and taking tax money for their own purposes. The Democrats in the state house cannot be trusted as far as you can throw them. They do not comprehend how to manage money responsibly.

So, any takers on my bets? Let the Democrats retain power and let the fiscal side of government continue to deteriorate — while government expands and freedom loses again.

House Democrats Raise Gas Prices

So, did you see the news? Oh, the headline didn’t read anything about gas prices, did it? Sorry, the editors must have missed that one — I’m sure completely by accident. By my headline is quite a bit more accurate.

Well, it’s simply true that the Democrats in the US House voted to raise the price of the gas that you pay for at the pump. Anyone who claims that’s not true is simply wrong. Democrats raised the price of gas by $18 billion. How much will that cost per gallon? I don’t know. But you can be sure — when the gas prices go up, it will once again be ONLY government’s fault. So don’t blame Bush when the prices rise — because Bush has said he wants to veto that gas price increase!

Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the House Democratic majority leader, said that he thinks modern conveniences stink. He would prefer that we all use horse and buggys for travel and candles and fire for light and heat. Seriously. He is annoyed that we depend on automobiles and electricity and says that it’s bad that we do.

Oh, and Pelosi said that we have to increase the price of gas because it’s not enough that the price of corn and food is skyrocketing, and instead if we increase the price of gas, then more people will use ethanol and food prices will go up even more. Well, maybe she didn’t say that, but that’s what she supports. In case that was too confusing, I’ll try again:

Pelosi and the Democrats support, and have voted to, raising the cost of gasoline AND the cost of food.

Must be nice to be part of the government where you don’t care how much things cost for the “little people.”

Republic of Montana?

So, who’s up for moving to Montana? It’s really not as bad as you might think, weather-wise, from what I’ve read. Their winters aren’t as bad as, say, Minnesota or North Dakota, especially in the west, it appears. Sure, they’ve got two Democrat Senators, but that may not matter soon.

Have you heard about the numerous elected officials that are warning the United States that if the Supreme Court claims that the second amendment doesn’t apply to individuals that the state of Montana has the right to remove itself from the union, based on contract violations? In other words, many in the state government of Montana are saying that Montana joined the union based on the idea that the second amendment was an individual right. Now if the federal government decides it’s not, the state is within it’s rights to leave.

No, there’s no call for secession yet, but you can bet I’ll be watching this one closely. There could be some good that would come from a bad decision by the Supreme Court. Of course, if I were to bet on the Supreme Court, based on their past history, I think in the upcoming case, they just won’t rule on the second amendment and will instead worry about some technicality or will send it back to a lower court because they don’t want to deal with it. We’ll see soon enough.

Congressman Hugh Webster?

Ah, lots of news these days in North Carolina politics, eh? A couple days ago, former North Carolina Senator Hugh Webster filed for run for US Congress. Now I know Hugh Webster. He is a great guy. He’s a very honest guy (despite his time in the NC Senate). And he’s a smart guy. He wouldn’t have filed to run in this race unless he thought he could win it.

But he’s running against Brad Miller — in a district (the 13th) that Miller personally designed for himself*. This should be a great race to watch. Also, Senator Webster was one of the very few Republicans at the state level who actually helped yours truly when he ran for election, even when I didn’t stand a chance. And Mr. Webster is as pro-gun as you can get.

While I can’t vote for Senator Webster, you can bet I’d be voting and helping if I lived a bit closer to him.

_____

* In case you’re not aware of how the political system works in North Carolina after over 100 years of one-party (Democrat) rule: the Democrats in the North Carolina Legislature pick which people they want to be in their district (based on who will vote for them), and then the legislators let the people “vote” and “pick” their representative. And no, there are almost no districts where there is any competition at ALL in the general election. Seriously.

Fat Cheerleaders?

I really have to wonder what’s in the mind of the marketing moguls in Florida. The Florida Marlins. For the last two years, they have had the lowest attendance in the Major Leagues. In other words, no one is showing up to watch this team play. So, in some twisted sense of logic, the Marlins think that if they get a bunch of fat guys to show up and dance, that somehow MORE people will show up.

I’m betting that the fat guys will bring a few friends, but the rolls of fat will likely make more people stay away. I know I’d be staying far, far away from that stadium. And this from a league that’s trying to remain family-friendly?

Smith Winning NC Gubernatorial Primary Race

Fred Smith appears to be in the current lead for the Republican nomination for governor. Well, according to his campaign, anyway:

Survey conducted the week of 2/18/08

In a three day statewide survey of 6,380 likely Republican Primary Voters, when asked who they would vote for in the NC Republican Primary for Governor, this is the breakdown:

Fred Smith - 33%
Pat McCrory - 26%
Bill Graham - 10%
And Bob Orr - 6%
Undecided 25%

In the same survey of 5,220 likely Republican Primary Voters, if Smith and McCrory were in a two way race the numbers were:

Fred Smith - 49.56%
Pat McCrory 34.87%
Undecided - 15.57%

You know, way back in 2006, Ogre met with and reported on Mr. Smith…

Argument Clinic

I have to say it would be quite difficult to answer the question, “What’s the greatest Monty Python skit of all time?” I really would be hard pressed to pick just one, there’s so many hilarious and classic sessions. However, I suppose if I were really pressed, I’d have to say one that would certainly make the short list would be Argument Clinic. Oppose Diversity? You’re Fired.

Welcome to the indoctrination centers that are “higher learning” in America today. Once upon a time, centers of education were about learning. They were about education. That time has long passed. Today, American colleges and Universities (subsidies of the US Government) are instead about forcing you to accept the humanistic religion and such tenets of that religion as “All diversity is good because of diversity” and “White males are all evil.”

Just ask Ryan Visconti. He is employed by Arizona State University. They forced him, as a condition of continued employment with this state agency, to accept that whites are evil and gay is good. He committed the unforgivable sin of speaking to a newspaper about the “exercises” that were designed to force him to accept, well, that Christians, males, and all white people are the source of all evil in the world.

He hasn’t been fired yet (it is quite difficult to actually be FIRED from any government job), but he’s on probation until he learns his lesson about talking about the secret initiations into the government-supported cult of secular diversity humanism. I am quite sure that if he dares speak out and says anything like, “Gay is wrong,” he will be fired on the spot.

And you thought that university systems were about freedom of speech. Sorry, they’re about freedom of SOME speech — mostly degenerate, biased, hate-filled, sexist speech.

Health Care CRISIS

Ahhhhhhh! It’s the end of the world! The sky is falling! And algore has nothing to do with it! This one is so bad! Health care spending will increase! Ahhhhhhh!

Oh, but did you happen to read these articles and listen to the talking heads carefully? Do you see exactly WHY health care spending will increase? Yes, you guessed it — government. The reason health care is expensive in the first place, and THE reason the costs will skyrocket IS government — literally nothing else can be blamed. And so, predictably, since government caused the problem, government will claim they can “solve” the problem. Like every other problem, they’re simply wrong.

One of the largest reasons health care spending will increase is because government will pay. When someone else pays for a service, and there is no direct cost to the end user, the demand will skyrocket. You don’t have to like it or agree with it, that’s a fact. Don’t believe me? Try this one:

If you could get any food you wanted and government would pay for it, how much more food would you buy? Might you grab and extra six-pack before heading home? Maybe you’d go ahead and buy that porterhouse, even if you knew you couldn’t finish it — after all, you’re not paying for it. Maybe you’d start buying the brand-name cereal instead of the Wal-mart brand because it’s all the same to you. When government, via ANY program (medicare, medicaid, Hillarycare) pays for the service, PEOPLE USE MORE.

“Oh, you’re so heartless,” I hear you say. No, I’m being realistic and based on freedom. You do NOT have a right to my labor, period. As soon as you accept that you have a right to my labor, then all semblance of freedom is completely gone. I am now a slave. And it doesn’t matter that it’s not you, personally, that’s using the whip on me. Your agents, government, are forcing me, against my will, to work for you. That’s wrong.

You simply cannot have a “right” to something that requires labor from someone else — as healthcare does. When you say that everyone has a right to healthcare, you are actually saying that government has the right to put people in slavery to work for government, whether they want to work or not. AND you are creating a very limited supply and a massive demand — it fails every single time it’s tried.

Want to fix health care? Get government out of the way. Government shouldn’t provide healthcare for any one, any time, at any place. It’s unconstitutional, morally wrong, and practically impossible. Will that hurt some people? I bet it would hurt less people than socialized government medicine — a LOT less. If government were out of the way, and the legal system were hindered, costs would drop like an elephant from a bamboo tree.

This is nothing more than a crisis created by, for, and about government. I bet the big-government people (99% of everyone in Washington) are having parties to celebrate this one. They are quite happy because they can and will use this “news” to create bigger and more controlling government. Goodbye freedom, we hardly knew ya.

Combatting Global Warming

Did you know that hundreds of California bureaucrats are meeting to “combat” global warming? They’re wanting to focus on “battling” the enemy and are going to use the power of government to crush that enemy.

Do you know who that enemy is? It’s you and I. Yes, the California government is openly declaring war on it’s people.

You see, if you use any item that was wrapped in plastic, you are the enemy. If you purchase any item that was shipped to the store by a truck, you’re the enemy. If you drive a car fueled by gasoline, you are the enemy.

And in case you missed it, that’s the government of California that’s declaring WAR on you. They are getting ready to BATTLE YOU. This is a “statewide movement” designed to win the war against YOU. I hope you’ve got enough land to do subsistence farming — because if you don’t, you are now the open and declared enemy of the government in the state of California. Are you ready to fight back yet?
