Danger At Disney

Now I don’t like Disney. I’ve been to Disney World, when I was young. I do not like Disney and it’s politics, and I won’t give them any of my money to support their politics. But they have a very strange sense of reality (not surprising, knowing their political slant). The Disney company believes that if I choose to defend myself at a gas station while on the way to Disney World, their guests are not safe.

No, really. That’s what they are claiming.

At issue is an employee of Disney that wants to have a gun in his trunk in the employee lot. I can relate to this, because I once worked at a company that tried this with me. I explained to the company that if they did this, they would be personally and financially liable if anything happened to me on my way to or from work. They refused to acknowledge this fact. Therefore, I refused to allow them to disarm me on my way to work.

But in the case of Disney, the logic is just utterly insane (like much of the left today). How does having a gun in a car in the parking lot have ANY effect on ANYONE at the place of work? I seriously wonder if these people are so delusional to actually think that if they ban guns in cars that if someone is so brain-damaged as to want to go on a shooting spree that they will actually say, “Gee, I was going to shoot everyone up at work today, but since I’m not allowed to have a gun in my car, I guess I won’t.” What utter and total foolishness. Then again, that IS the Disney company, Democrats, and way, way too many voters today. I just want to be free and left alone. Apparently that’s too much to ask these days.

NC Senate Creates Criminals

So I bet you didn’t read the big news in the North Carolina media this weekend. But I guess that’s because the media is more interesting is getting you angry at Republicans so the media can win the elections and keep advancing socialism. Meanwhile, the North Carolina Senate passed a law that creates tens of thousands of new criminals. In addition, it makes tens of thousands of people who are absolutely no danger to anyone unable to purchase firearms. Why? Because government simply does not like people to be armed and will not put up with the damn citizens having guns. No, really, that’s why.

The new law makes it illegal for anyone who has ever been referred by a judge to a psychologist ineligible to own a gun. You can be sure that government employees (policemen) will be exempt from this (and lots of other) law. And to get the law passed, they did add a section that claims that if you are barred from buying a gun, you can beg and plead government for permission once again. And of course, it will be up to the black-robed ones to give you permission.

So now, in North Carolina, if you go to a judge because you got a speeding ticket and the judge decides you need “anger counseling,” you’re barred for life from buying a gun in the United States. Seriously, that’s what the law says. I guess the black market in guns will just have to continue to expand.

Guns Are Scary

Mary C. Schulken, Democrat opinion writer for the Charlotte Observer, is terrified. No, she’s not scared because violent crime is on the increase in Charlotte. No, she’s not scared because the Charlotte police department is more interested in being social workers than policemen. And no, she’s not even scared because her car was stolen by thieves recently. So why is she suddenly scared? Because she just now found out that a few people who are not policemen have guns.

I know, it’s really scary. I can only guess that Miss Schulken has so insulated herself from the reality of the world that she honestly didn’t realize that people have owned and been carrying guns for, well, as long as this country has existed. I imagine the recent Supreme Court decision that says government will actually permit subjects citizens to own guns was also quite a shock to her. But either way, she’s just absolutely terrified to know that I, personally, am armed.

Now I don’t live in Charlotte any more — primarily because of crime and insane taxes. But let me try and put your fears to rest, Miss Schulken, because I bet there are a few others like myself that do live in Charlotte:

I own guns. I own a number of different guns. I have revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, and rifles. Yes, I even have one of those “banned” “assault” rifles. I have large pistols, and I have small ones — including one that I carry with me nearly everywhere I go. And know what, Miss Schulken? Not a one of my guns has killed an innocent person. Oh, but one time the mere presence of my shotgun did cause a group of about 8 “youths” from continuing to walk towards me when I was leaving work at 1am. I’ve had some of these guns as long as 15 years and never once has one killed someone by itself. I may have even once walked right past you in the city of Charlotte on the sidewalk, and you weren’t killed by my gun. Your fears are completely and totally unfounded.

Now I realize that you’re a female, so your emotions are more important than facts. I know that you, and many others like you, do not care that no one has been killed by my guns, you’re just plain terrified. I am sorry that my mere presence scares you. However, your emotions are not my responsibility. While I will point out that your fears have no basis in reality, I will not order you, nor will I force you to not be scared. And therein lies the difference between Miss Schulken and myself. I believe in freedom. I believe you should be free to have your emotions. You, however, do not believe that I should be free to protect myself from those who would do me harm.

People like you, Miss Schulken, scare me. It scares me that you would allow government to take away my means of protection so that the scum who would rob me would have more power than I do. It scares me that you would trust the government to protect you from others when you should take responsibility for yourself. However, if you do not want to take responsibility for yourself, I won’t force you to. But most of all it scares me that you want to use government force to stop me from taking responsibility for myself. You are the reason the Constitution exists: to protect me from people like yourself.

Your Gun Broke? Go To Jail

Sure, go ahead. Try and convince me how government is good and saving people from themselves and others. Meanwhile, explain why a man has been sent to jail for OVER TWO YEARS because his gun broke. Seriously, there’s nothing more to that story. The man’s gun broke. The government decided they wanted him in jail, so they made up crap and evidence until a judge sent him to jail. Nope, he didn’t commit any other crime. In fact, he didn’t even HAVE the gun when it broke. It broke and he was convicted of letting someone else borrow his gun when it broke. Bet you didn’t know that was against the law, did you?

But hey, one of the main purposes of government today is to ensure that everyone is a criminal so that the government can lock up anyone they don’t like. The message is clear and getting clearer every day: the government is the enemy. And you know that over-and-under shotgun your grandfather gave you? Don’t let someone borrow it, because if it misfires, you will go to jail. And don’t forget — if you want to break laws with literal and complete immunity, all you have to do is join the government. Laws are for suckers, NOT government employees.

Gun Rights News

There hasn’t been a great deal of news about the old, outdated concept of self-protection and the second amendment lately. Well, with the exception of the case in DC where the Supreme Court MAY rule on whether the second amendment to the Constitution is actually Constitutional. Of course, that is all likely to change with the next president, because none of the three top candidates support people owning guns at any time in any place. However, there’s been a couple things of note.

The Supreme Court of CA recently had a VERY tough case in front of them. The fairy nannys in San Francisco wanted to ban the second amendment in their city. The residents voted that no one except criminals would be allowed to have guns or ammo in their communist city. While the Supreme Court had to LOVE that concept, it interfered with the state’s ultimate power to control guns they way THEY wanted to. So the court had to rule that the state could overrule city laws; which had the result of overturning the ban. That HAD to be painful for those gun-haters.

And while some people are still completely delusional about why people own guns, and in total denial of facts, others understand that guns prevent crime. That’s a fact, whether you want to admit it or not. And now, the state of Florida wants to allow people to defend themselves at their place of work. In short, the law allows people to take their guns to work where the workplace might outlaw those guns.

Personally, I don’t think this law is needed. I think it’s an intrusion on property rights, myself. And this is an issue I’ve faced before. I have worked (for a short time) at places that prohibited me from having a gun in my car on their property. If it’s a government facility, they don’t have the right to do this. However, if it’s a private company, it’s their company, and they should be able to do that.

Of course, when I was told that, I explained in legal terms that the company was then taking total responsibility for my safety from the moment I left my house. I explained to them that if I were ever injured or robbed on the way to work when I stopped for gas, I was holding the company personally responsible, because they denied me my right to protect myself. And that should be completely legal and that IS the function of government, to enforce those contracts. When the company said that I could not defend myself en route to work, they were making a contract that claimed they were completely responsible for my defense. Of course, in today’s legal system, common law and logic don’t apply, so I would likely lose that case — which is why Florida’s law was passed. See how quickly government can screw things up when they do the wrong thing — needing more government to attempt to solve the problem — which only creates more problems. Wouldn’t it be great if instead we were all free?

Republic of Montana?

So, who’s up for moving to Montana? It’s really not as bad as you might think, weather-wise, from what I’ve read. Their winters aren’t as bad as, say, Minnesota or North Dakota, especially in the west, it appears. Sure, they’ve got two Democrat Senators, but that may not matter soon.

Have you heard about the numerous elected officials that are warning the United States that if the Supreme Court claims that the second amendment doesn’t apply to individuals that the state of Montana has the right to remove itself from the union, based on contract violations? In other words, many in the state government of Montana are saying that Montana joined the union based on the idea that the second amendment was an individual right. Now if the federal government decides it’s not, the state is within it’s rights to leave.

No, there’s no call for secession yet, but you can bet I’ll be watching this one closely. There could be some good that would come from a bad decision by the Supreme Court. Of course, if I were to bet on the Supreme Court, based on their past history, I think in the upcoming case, they just won’t rule on the second amendment and will instead worry about some technicality or will send it back to a lower court because they don’t want to deal with it. We’ll see soon enough.

McCain on Guns

I know many people are attempting to rally conservatives* around McCain, often working on the theory that he’s not “as bad” as BillaryBama. However, I’m finding myself quite in agreement with Chuck Baldwin, who says:

Let me say it straight out: a John McCain Presidency would be far worse than a Barack Obama Presidency.

Go ahead, follow the link and read why. Some very interesting stuff there about McCain that not a lot of people know about.

Gun In Disney World?

News reports from Sunday say that a 63-year old Pennsylvania woman was arrested for “for allegedly bringing a loaded semi-automatic into the park.” Oh, and she had scissors in her purse, too.

News reports don’t describe how much jail time this woman faces. However, I have a couple questions: What, exactly, did she do wrong? Who did she harm? Did her actions cause anyone actual, physical harm? Did she do something that put others in imminent danger? Was she then, or is she now a danger to, well, anyone else at all?

I honestly cannot see anything at all that she did wrong, nor any reason at all that our taxpayer dollars were used to “investigate” and arrest this woman.

On Being Armed

Those of you who read here often know Ogre’s position on the second amendment. You also know how Ogre feels about the politically incorrect word “Responsibility.” So I’m sure to many, it’s no surprise that Ogre is armed nearly all the time. Why? Because Ogre is responsible. I, individually, am responsible for my personal safety, no matter what the police and government want.

I also travel in areas where there is known to be high crime levels (Charlotte, NC). Carjackings and robberies are not unknown. So nearly everywhere (even when it’s allegedly “not legal”), I am armed. And know what? I feel safe. I’ve gotten used to the level of safety and responsibility. I believe I will be able to protect myself and others in times of danger.

This past weekend was the last weekend of the Caroliana Renaissance Festival. This was the first weekend I had ever been armed there. No, I wasn’t wearing a firearm, it was a sword. You see, I’ve been participating in various pirate-related activites there and this past week I managed to buy a short sword to go with the pirate outfit (it’s pretty piratey, with skulls, etc). And I felt completely different.

The Carolina Renaissance Festival is one of the very few places that I go where I am not normally armed. Perhaps that is because I feel completely safe there. It truly is a place where one can relax and not feel any danger at all — despite so very many people there who ARE armed. Sure, there’s even drinking. And yes, the armed people drink, too. But I’ve never seen anyone in danger, even remotely.

This past weekend when I was armed (again, with a sword), I did feel quite different. Even though I’m not necessarily trained in the use of a sword, I still felt different. I felt the responsibility of carrying a weapon and the added responsibility of watching more carefully those around me — and I felt the responsibility to protect others should the need arise. It’s amazing how different one feels when you’re armed (and when you accept responsibility).

Now this doesn’t mean I’m advocating that everyone should be armed all the time. But it does mean that no one should try and disarm me (or others like me). And to be honest, I’m going to remain armed, no matter what laws get passed. I respect the law, but I desire to protect innocent life more.
