IOC Lies

As many of my regular readers know, I’m a HUGE fan of amateur sports. I love the Olympics — when there are amateurs competing. I strongly support returning to the rule that says if you’re a professional in ANY sport, then you don’t belong in the Olympics.

I’ve also strongly opposed China hosting the Olympics. I know and understand the Chinese government. They exist to retain power over their people. They are a horrible, oppressive government that destroys anyone who dares to disagree with them. They are an avowed enemy of the United States. And Bush simply should not attend the opening ceremonies, as it gives a platform to the communists to garner even more world support.

I was open to the idea that having the games there might force the country to open up. It might be used as a platform to show the Chinese about freedom. And the Chinese government has been promising for years that they would open up for the Olympics. Of course, they lied. Sorry, but that’s what the Chinese and other evil governments do. ANY statement made by the Chinese government (or ANY government) simply cannot be trusted or taken at face value. The government will tell you what you need to know and do, and you are not to question them. Of course, more and more that’s exactly how the government in this country works, too, so I guess it makes sense to Bush to support them, doesn’t it?

And not surprisingly, the International Olympic Committee has absolutely no problem with the Chinese government censoring anything and everything they want DURING the Olympics.

  1. On this particular subject, I have to respectfully disagree with your opinion.

The Olympics should only be about athletic competition, not politics. Politicizing the events more than they already are is a formula for disaster for the advancement of athletic competition. Keeping in mind that we have always had, and will always have differences of political opinion between nations, if we allow our politics to determine our athletic competitions, and read too much into the results of it, we’ll never compete again. Country A will always find a reason to not compete because Country B does X. This is NOT to agree or disagree with the policies of any government. But keeping the eye on the objective, we must acknowledge that the story here simply isn’t about politics. We didn’t boycott the 1936 Berlin olympics either. Nor should we have… and you never know what will come about, as was the case of Jesse Owens’ victories in the heart of Nazi ideology.

  2. I agree that the games SHOULD be about athletics. However, they are not. I’m not supporting a complete boycott — I think that Bush should not go to the opening ceremonies and celebrate with the ChiComs — because they WILL make this political. It’s political because the Chinese are right now arresting people to make themselves look better to the world.

The 1936 Olympics WERE used as a political tool to launch WWII by Germany. The 2008 Olympics will be used by China to support their crackdowns on freedom in their country.

And to be honest, the games stopped being about athletics when they let in professional athletes.
