Duke Power Wants Cash
And so they’re asking government to raise rates so they can have more money. And knowing government, they will probably allow it. Oh sure, Duke Power is claiming they want the money to “research alternative energy sources.” Apparently no one is doing that now. And apparently no one will do it without being forced to by government, either. I wonder how electricity was discovered. I guess it was a government program because apparently, according to Duke Power, no one will do anything unless government tells them to.
Hey Mr. Rogers (CEO of Duke Power), how about we let people have some freedom instead? How about you take some of your millions of dollars that you are already earning and use that to do some research? How about you allow someone else with money to do research and COMPETE with you? Oh, you wouldn’t like that, would you, because that might take some government cash out of your pocket, wouldn’t it?
Freedom works, every single time it’s tried. A move like this is nothing more than more communism, literally — it’s the state regulating not only the means of production, but also all research into new means of production so they can regulate that, too. It’s wrong and clearly anti-freedom — gee, just like everything else government does today.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom!

What a sad story, I am with you on the big-government-encroaching-our-freedoms thing.
People are just getting accustomed to it, and now are clamoring for more government intervention.
I am just amazed at how few people are left that actually seem to care about freedom and would rather just let government do everything.
Well…we’ve been conditioned to accept it over the generations. You and I remember a time when there were no seatbelt laws, taxes were lower, and government was at least 40% smaller.
There are a lot of people who aren’t even old enough to recall that.
I just wish it were easier to explain to them how wonderful freedom feels.
Let’s not talk about O-L-D, OK???? LOL! This is nuts, utilities and insurance companies are in the “rip off the people” game and the Government many times subsidizes their doing it… I’m with you Ogre, yearning for freedom from fat government.
I am not so sure if de-regulating all of these industries will do ****.
Duke has been raising rates, getting more tax breaks, and again increasing profits.
So is the problem too much oversight? Or not enough?
Duke actually spends a ton of money on development, solely because they want to be in a position to monopolize the market in case of the advent of new technologies.
If the workers own the companies, this would never happen.
I’m not talking about de-regulation here — just more government support of research on a monopoly. That’s wrong. If there’s a way to generate electricity that’s feasible, let people find it, NOT government subsidies. If Duke power wants to sell electricity, let them sell it — giving them free cash for research destroys that purpose.
