Libertarians in North Carolina

Hey, did you know that Libertarians are allowed to run for election in North Carolina again? Yes, despite some of the most difficult ballot access laws in the country, they’re permitted again to run. And that’s despite a superior court judge who actually said, “there is no fundamental right for a voter to vote for the party of their choice.”

And yes, of course, libertarians candidates will be excluded from the election process as much as possible by the media, the Democrats, and the Republicans. But it sure is refreshing to see that in some elections people will actually have a choice. Keep in mind, this is the same North Carolina where as many as 80% or more of the state legislature only changes hands when those in power want them to (there’s zero competition).

So this year, why not join ‘em? If you live in an uncontested district, get your name on the ballot. It’s not too expensive and people will actually have a choice. You know, I think I’ll see if they want me on the ballot — I know in my districts, there’s zero opposition for either the state house or the state senate…

  1. I’m a Libertarian and elected to the Lenoir City Council. I’m running against Repub. Edgar Starnes for the 87th House seat. The Dem. nominee is the former head of the Bank of Granite, 90-year-old John Forlines.

  2. An elected Libertarian? In North Carolina? Oh sure, next you’ll tell me that you’re the Easter bunny. ;)

Hey, that’s great to hear! So there will be a 3-way race in that house district? That’s great. I love freedom of choice (even if the Democrats who run NC don’t).
