VA Tech Lawsuits

So word is that some of the VT lawsuits have been settled. I’m rather torn on these settlements.

On the one hand, the government and the school are clearly liable. When they passed laws and ruled and ordered that “citizens” who entered the campus were not allowed to defend themselves, the government, at that moment, assumed complete and total responsibility for their safety. True, these people did voluntarily submit to the stripping of their rights (they weren’t forced to go on campus), but as soon as government accepted responsibility for their safety, the government was clearly liable when their safety was lost.

At the same time, the problem is that the people who made those decisions aren’t being held responsible. Instead, *I* am — and YOU are. You see, the people who run the campus, who get to tell others that they’re not allowed to defend themselves don’t care how much they pay out — it’s not their money, it’s yours and my money via taxes. So if the settlement was $11 million or $11 billion, it would have zero effect on the college or the people running it.

In order to truly hold people accountable for their actions, the individuals who passed those laws and took responsibility for the lives of those students should have been held personally responsible and liable. Now THAT would be true justice.

  1. Also, in my humble opinion, had the Government not decided that a treatment center/psychiatrist was not obligated to inform the government when someone who is danger to society, should be not be allowed to own or purchase a gun… I think they took on some responsibility there. If one demonstrates to a psychologist that they are angry and want to kill people, how are they different from someone who commits a felony. They will put felons on the FBI list, even if there crime did not involve using weapons!!! Had Cho’s name appeared on the “don’t sell guns to these people” list, there would be about 30+ people still alive or it would have made it much harder for him to acquire the weapons to murder innocent people.
Those lawsuits probably wouldn’t even be happening if Cho’s treatment center was not required by law to look out for his “right to kill people” and be an “endangerment to society”. That seems to me to be what the “liberals call Free Speech and Rights”.

  2. Man did I ever goober up the language on that comment! Oops!

  3. Another example of why we need to triple the price of Law School and cut in half the cost of medical training. Bottom line — Political Correctness is the root cause of this tragic incident. What ever happened to calling a “spade a spade?

  4. Worse than what happened at VT, but very much in the same mindset, is the push to release terrorists from their incarceration at Guantanamo, and the attempt to bestow upon them the rights and priviledges afforded US citizens, to include attorneys and trials. These champions of beheading have now unleashed upon us all some of the most maniacal cretons since Charles Manson. If you ask me, it sends one VERY CLEAR message to our military. Take no prisoners……..

  5. Yes, it certainly sends that message, Daryl. Absolutely.

And you are all correct in supposing that the goal of liberalism IS to promote destruction. That’s what they honestly like. Why? Because then they can be the heroes that save us! Honestly, that’s what liberalism does. Just look at the gas prices. Know why Democrats are working hard to keep prices high? To win elections, and quite literally nothing more. If you view all actions of liberals in terms of how they can get power or money, you will see justification for everything they do.

  6. Liberals have something similar to Münchhausen going on.
