More Republican Advice
Now last week I mentioned the vast political advice being given to the failing, floundering National Republican Party. Today I read about the governator’s advice to the party. And it appears I had nearly the same thoughts as Vox Day on this one. The big-government liberals in the Republican Party are why the party is such a mess — so they shouldn’t be relied upon to fix the party.
More and more people (like Schwarzenegger) are telling the Republican Party that they need to move leftward (euphemistically “towards the center”) in order to win elections. Now the Republican Party is already left of center (on a freedom-based scale where right is free, left is total government, and the middle is the mid-point between the two). The Democrat Party, under it’s current leadership of Obama, is FAR to the left. But many people, seem to think the Republican Party needs to move further left to get more votes. And it looks like the majority of Republican Primary voters agree — which is why McCain is on the top of that ticket.
What I wonder about, more than anything related to these events is if these people are right. Now I don’t think for a minute that the Republican Party can out-liberal the Democrats. But these self-styled “moderates” appear to be saying that the Democrat Party has gone too far left — and the only way to get the votes is to go really far left, but not quite as far left as the Democrats. They’re implying that the Democrats are too radical for voters, but people would prefer a huge, oppressive, tax-heavy government — just a tiny bit smaller and less oppressive than what Democrats want. Are they right?
It is certainly hard to know what a large number of voters want. The tyranny of the majority will prevail, however. The more I read and talk with people, the more I see that it certainly does appear that the majority of the voting population does want an oppressive government. It appears that the majority is completely happy with not having any freedom if they feel good about it. It looks to me like the majority is fine with bloated, useless government regulations because it’s “For The Children.”
I just wonder if it’s the majority of people, or just the majority of the voting people.
I know a lot of people who simply want to be left alone (like myself). I know a lot of people who will just ignore the government when push comes to shove (make owning guns illegal? Go ahead, I don’t care, I’m keeping mine). I know a lot of people who want freedom, but who are just taking it, no matter what government does (and being violently punished by government when they’re caught). I just wonder if there’s a point where this large number (or at least what I think is a large number) of people will finally just get pushed over the edge and will start fighting back for their freedoms. It’s not going to be this election cycle, and it may be never. Then again, the fewer people that vote, the larger this group appears to grow.
