Global TransPark Bribery

Those of you not in North Carolina likely have never heard of the Global TransPark in Kinston, NC. This is a great example of how government simply cannot force the economy to do what they want. The government demanded that people start buying things from this TransPark. Well, people didn’t want to. Since people didn’t want to, businesses didn’t show up. Therefore, government started throwing money at businesses so they would open up there. Of course, since people weren’t interested in going there, the businesses all failed. But that didn’t stop government — they kept throwing more and more money at it. The next group of businesses only lasted as long as government literally paid them to be there. This cycle continues, now going on for over 15 years.

In this most recent cycle, the state is giving yet another company another $100 million to open a business there. No, there’s no demand for the business, but the government is giving this private company one hundred million dollars. Heck, for that money, I’ll open any business you want me to. Sure, it will likely close in a year or two when they run out of money for lack of business, but that doesn’t matter. Government will just bribe someone else to open up there for awhile. After all, it’s an “investment.”

Worse, want to know where government is getting the money? Remember all those tobacco lawsuits? The ones that claimed to be about “health?” Remember the massive amounts of bribes settlement cash extorted collected from the tobacco companies to reimburse states for their medical costs? Yeah, that money? That’s where the cash is coming from to bribe this aviation parts company to open up shop. And people expect me to believe anything any government official or employee says.

But hey, as a recent commenter here regarding other government bribery says:

Are you aware that scores of thousands of people in High Point and Piedmont Triad region depend on the prosperity of the Market and the industry it serves.[sic]

So making more people dependent on government is a good thing. In fact, the more people we can get depending on government for their every need, the better off society will be — because only government bureaucrats know what you need and can ensure that you get it. Hard work is bad, government is good. If you oppose this position, you’re evil. Up is down and wrong is right.

Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

  1. It just seems like yesterday when Gov. Jim (Should be in Jail) Hunt was pimping his little project like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread (15 years ago?).

Question: Before sliced bread, what was the greatest thing?

  2. This project is the original money pit. There is no amount of my money they won’t throw at this thing.

    Answer: Bread in a can.
