McCain “courting” Conservatives?

Richard Viguerie has written an article that talks about Juan McCain and his feeble attempts to court the conservative vote. While many of the points in the article are factually correct, I think Richard is wrong — I don’t think McCain is courting conservatives at all. I don’t think he cares about conservatives.

I guess to be fair, I’ve got to define “conservative” — because if you ask Juan McCain, he’ll tell you that HE is a conservative. In fact, anyone who claims an “R” after their name, no matter their positions on any issues, is claiming to be a conservative today. But when I speak of conservative here, and I believe as Mr. Viguerie does, a conservative is someone who wants smaller, less powerful government.

So if that’s a conservative, Juan doesn’t care about them. Juan believes that he will get most Republican votes and he wants the great unwashed middle. Heck, he believes he can get moderate Democrat votes, too — and he’ll do anything to get those votes.

He may claim he would appoint conservative judges, but again, that’s based on his personal definition of conservative. I honestly believe he would offer Supreme Court judge positions to Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Russ Feingold, and Al Gore. Juan would continue the destruction of America’s borders — because he doesn’t care. Juan would crush freedom now that he’s joined the religion of Global Warming. No, Juan McCain has NO interest in the conservative vote. Juan just assumes he’ll get enough moderate Democrats, Independents, and old-line Republican Party hacks that he’ll win. And he just might — because after all, where do conservatives have to go?

Oh, right, Chuck Baldwin. Or, there could still be a Miracle in Minnesota — Republicans could grow a pair and nominate Ron Paul

  1. The average American today has lost the ability to distinguish between needs and wants. The worth of the typical Senator or Congressman continues to be measured by how much pork they can deliver. Everybody wants to promise MORE, when in fact the real statesman would clearly recognize that what our country needs right now is a lot of promises to deliver LESS. We’re in debt so deep there is no hope of financial solvency, and the reward for all that is ever higher taxes just to pay the interest. Sooner or later, the government will do the one and only thing they can do to make up for their past excesses, print more money. And at that point, it won’t matter how hard you’ve worked or how much you’ve saved, it will all be worthless. The Democratic party’s great dream of redistribution of the wealth will be complete, except that nobody will have anything. We’ll all be destitute. Having destroyed free enterprise, they’ll then offer us more and more government to solve the problem, FDR “Raw Deal” style. God help us all.

  2. Indeed, I can do little but shake my head when I hear politicians today. EVERY last one that has wanted my vote (with the exception of Ron Paul) has promised me what they will “bring home” to the district. I don’t want them to bring me ANYTHING — I want them to stop TAKING from me. However, I am in the VAST minority. I would guess about 60% of the public (all of whom vote, so about 90% of the voters) are happy with “gimmie, gimmie, gimmie.” It sucks, but there’s little that can be done right now. I’m just stocking up on beans and bullets, waiting for the inevitable.
