More McHenry vs. Sigmon
Apparently this past Saturday was a Congressional district convention. I don’t know how you were supposed to know about it because last I read on the NC GOP’s web site, this Congressional convention had already happened. That stinks, because I would really have been there if I had known. I guess if you want to do anything in politics, you really do have to know the right people to even find out about such events. I guess something like a mailing to the registered Republicans in the district is asking too much.
Anyway, apparently Lance Sigmon and Patrick McHenry had a debate. I found out because I received an e-mail titled, “McHenry Wins Debate.” I thought that would be neat, but then I noticed the return address: McHenry for Congress. Oh, that’s going to be a good article, isn’t it? Well, after reading the article, I quickly turned on the news to see when McHenry was going to announce his retirement. You see, in the e-mail, McHenry says,
When the moderators asked Lance Sigmon if he would support our Republican nominee for Congress, he said, “absolutely not.” He would prefer to divide the Party and help elect a liberal.
Lance Sigmon failed the test, and his answer was met with thundering boos from the Republican activists.
When Congressman McHenry was asked the same question, he didn’t hesitate. “Yes,” said the Congressman. “Not only will I endorse our nominee, I’ll campaign for him. I’ll donate money to him.”
If McHenry is THAT interesting in just getting a Republican elected, no matter who it is, since Sigmon already has supporters and Mr. Sigmon didn’t agree, then McHenry should immediately quit and start supporting Sigmon. Logically that’s the only conclusion one can garder from that sort of statement.
But what’s more troubling to me is that McHenry seems to actually think that the Republican Party is the party of conservatives. I think McHenry is living on another planet. While John McCain is a Republican, he does not hold conservative values. Or, I should say, if the word Conservative had any meaning that would be true. You see, today’s political world is so screwed up that words like “conservative” really don’t have an absolute meaning. Instead, that word means whatever the speaker wants it to mean — including massive, huge expansions of government power and control.
So Congressman McHenry wants a Republican victory at any cost. I’m sorry, I’d rather lose than elect big government types. And further, I view political parties as a vehicle to advance my ideas — not as supreme to ideas. McHenry, and most party activists, would prefer winning first, coming up with and dealing with ideas second. And this, I believe, is one of the biggest problems with the two-party system we’re left with in America today.

It gets better: Not only have the CRs endorsed Lance Sigmon, but now Sigmon’s calling out McHenry on paying off the staffer involved in Voter Fraud. This is getting heated.

That was one of the original problems I had with McHenry. He paid college students to live in his house and vote for him in his first primary, and that was illegal. At least one kid was convicted — but McHenry didn’t care.
