On TX Polygamy Raids
I haven’t commented on these raids yet, because I have been reading and trying to determine the facts. Now that many facts have come to light, I realize my first instincts were correct: the government was and is completely and totally wrong, beyond control, beyond the Constitution, and should be crushed like the cockroach it is. But let’s see why I say that.
The government, in it’s PR war against these innocent people (yes, folks, once upon a time in this country you were innocent until proven guilty!), claimed there was a bed that was used for underage sex. Oh that’s a hot button that will get lots of people to hate these strange religious nuts. Of course, that was complete and total fabrication. There is absolutely zero evidence of any sexual activity taking place on that bed at any time in history. Nope, no DNA, no stains, nothing.
But that doesn’t matter. The state still brings in tanks Okay, it was technically an APC, but still. They brought in hundreds of officers and thousands of rounds of ammunition to take on a group that lives by peace. No one, at any time, had any actual evidence that there was a single person that would use violence. And no, no weapons were seized. The people there prayed when they were violently attacked and invaded by the government agents.
Worse, these people openly say they have done nothing wrong. They declare that there was no abuse. There was no sex without consent. Again, there’s zero evidence of any wrongdoing at all. Unfortunately, these people are delusional — because they believe they will get their children back. I would bet a LOT of money that the only way they will EVER see their children again is for them to kidnap them from the government. Anyone want to bet?
Oh, and the “tip” that led to the massive raid? Yeah, that’s a total lie, too. There was no girl. There was NO ONE complaining of abuse — NOT ONE PERSON. In other words, there was no evidence at all to invade these peaceful people — NONE. After searching the private property, the government agents were met with no resistance, and they uncovered ZERO evidence of any wrongdoing at all. But that’s not stopping government, no! Instead, the government is going to test all private members of the property to DNA tests. Why? Because government HASN’T FOUND A CRIME YET! That’s right, there’s NO evidence of any crime, so government will CONTINUE to attack these people and violate their rights because government will not stop until they put someone in jail — no matter what actually happened.
And for those of you concerned with the “massive” underage pregnancies, be sure to look at the facts: the number of underage kids that were pregnant on this piece of property is considerably less than in the rest of Texas. Why single out these people? If the law were applied consistently, the government would be DNA testing all those kids that visit Planned Parenthood a whole lot more than bothering with these peaceful folks who were minding their own business and not harming another soul.
So to answer the question, “Was the Raid Justified,” No. There is no way in the world the raid was justified. It should not have happened in the first place. Once the government screwed up with the unconstitutional raid, they should have stopped — and the people who have not broken the law should be freed. Instead, the government has taken hundreds of children and separated them from their families. And government has reinforced the idea that you cannot beat them. If government agents come to talk to you, there is no hope for justice. If you have children and you ever want to see them again, EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T BROKEN ANY LAWS, your only option is to flee — because government does not care about justice, only about itself and punishing those they disagree with.

I have a number of issues with your position.
In regards to the use of the APC and being well prepared with men and ammunition, there is a fairly easy response. After what happened at Waco, authorities wanted to be prepared for all eventualities. This is a walled compound and they had no idea of the reception they would receive and so they were prepared for all eventualities. Authorities have the right to protect themselves too.
These people were not ‘invaded’. Their community was being investigated for potential child abuse. CPS investigators conducted a preliminary investigation, determined that there was indications of abuse and as a result did their job and removed children from a potentially harmful situation. The authorities did not occupy the compound, the did not arrest anyone, all they did was protect children. There was no violence, no attack, all there was was an investigation into potential abuse. You cannot say that these people were “violently attacked”, when there was no violence and no attack,
There is evidence of breaking the law. There are minors who are pregnant - and whoever is the father is therefore guilty of statutory rape. And the women themselves admitted in court that women were married below the legal age of consent (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24199519/page/2/). A sect member even said that they are “reconsidering whether girls under 18 should have sex with adult men” (http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/21/polygamist.retreat.ap/index.html#cnnSTCText). That indicates that girls were having sex underage. And a professional psychiatrist who testified for the state said when he interviewed these girls they said there was no age too young for marriage and sex as long as the Prophet told them to do it. And this prophet is currently in jail for aiding the rape by forcing a 14 year old to marry her cousin.
These people are being ’singled out’ as you put it, because this isn’t a girl going out and doing something stupid. This is girls being brainwashed and forced to break the law and essentially being sexually abused by men who are decades older then them. And the boys are being taught that this is okay.
Your claim that they found no evidence is directly contradicted by the sworn testimony of the lead CPS investigator Angie Voss there were mothers who were 16 years old which is evidence of underage marriages and sexual intercourse. (http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/17/more-testimony-from-the-flds-hearing-today/)
This is not a healthy environment for kids. Try reading “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop, someone who left the FLDS community and describes exactly what goes on there.
It also does not matter that the initial phone call was false. As long as the authorities did not know it was false (and there is no indication of that) they had the duty to follow up and investigate. And they did. And saw pregnant teenagers who said they were sister wives. Those are crimes in the state of Texas. Everybody who has left there has horrifying stories to tell. So either all of those people are lying or there really is abuse going on.
