Sight Crimes

Yes, as if so-called “hate crimes” (in reality, thought crimes) aren’t enough, now the state of Maine actually wants to make it a FELONY to LOOK at a child wrong. And not surprisingly, it’s “For The Children(TM)”. At least, that’s what the news report claims.

But here’s a neat fact for you (as if facts matter): the news report is completely and totally WRONG.

Yes, the report, by one Dave Choate claims:

Those who peer at children in public could find themselves on the wrong side of the law in Maine soon.

Under the bill, if someone is arrested for viewing children in a public place, it would be a Class D felony if the child is between 12 to 14 years old and a Class C felony if the child is under 12, according to Alexander.

Well that is NOT what the actual bill says at all. LD2079, entitled “An Act To Strengthen the Crime of Visual Sexual Aggression against a Child” actually deals ONLY with “exposing .. genitals” in private. The only change to the law is that exposing yourself to a minor is not a crime both in a public place and a private place.

What should be very interesting is that the person quoted as thinking this law applies to merely looking at someone is the chief of police. The law, as proposed, is quite clear — and it’s not at all what the chief of police thinks, because the chief says he wants to use it to stop “peepers.” Then again, I’m sure none of this matters, because I’ve stated facts and truth, which simply don’t apply in today’s justice system or politics…

  1. My friends in York have been very active in much of this. You are right to cite the actual law…which some people want to encompass this LOOKING business. The media falls over itself by reporting only part of the story. Big surprise there.

  2. I had to go look it up because being arrested for a FELONY for looking at someone wrong? While I can imagine liberals passing such a law, I can’t see how it could ever be enforced.

  3. LOL Actually I can’t imagine liberals allowing such a law…after all they are the ones who go nutty over invasions of privacy and such.

Yea and how would this be enforced? What? Arrest a Dad whose looking after his daughter and her friends at the amusement park or ball game?? Of course he’s going to be looking! (out for the girls whereabouts and safety)

I have a sense of what this is. People who come up with this stuff are…true perverts themselves…who are guilty of the very things they’re trying to outlaw. Look no further than MrSpitzer for proof of this.

    LOL

  4. Good catch Ogre. I thought that this would be an un-enforceable law but didn’t know that it was mis-reported. Duh, why didn’t I think that? Brain freeze… yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking too it.

  5. That happens, so I’m told, when you get really old, GM… :)

And Raven, are you suggesting this might be a bit of projection?
