Babies: The New Pollutant

P.T. Barnum said that there’s one born every minute. Perhaps he was thinking of Toni Vernelli when he said that — or at least someone like her. You see, Ms. Vernelli honestly believes that a baby is a pollutant. Yes, the worst thing anyone can do on this planet is to have a baby — because it’s selfish and polluting — so says Ms. Vernelli. And she’s gone so far as to sterilize herself so she won’t “accidentally” pollute.

What would be interesting is to see the world that Ms. Vernelli envisions. In her version of the world, having babies would be outlawed, I imagine. After all, if babies are pollution, I’m sure she’d want everyone to be sterilized. Then everyone can have sex as often as they want without ever getting pregnant. Then in a couple generations, people would just cease to exist. Then there’d be no more pollution on the planet.

Now there’s nothing wrong with not wanting to have children. But to imply a baby is pollution borders on insanity. Then again, one commenter on the news site says:

I really think it’s great - less nuts about to breed and spread their lunacy to children.

  1. Cleaning up the gene pool without a lot of hassel!!! :-)

  2. The only good thing I can say is that at least this person isn’t trying to use government to force everyone else to do as she wishes — like most environmentalist loonies.

  3. This is true, or so it appears. By this time next year, she could be in politics and trying to legislate this, and the Libs could end up lining up behind her with Al Gore’s book in hand!!!! She sounds like aliens came down and sucked her brains out to me! (personal opinion of course!)

  4. Again — in her defense, she hasn’t (to my knowledge) ever said that everyone else should do this, or that government should force anyone else to do it. I’m all for freedom, most especially the freedom to be stupid.

  5. Hummmm… never thought of it that way Ogre. People have to be allowed to be as stupid as they want I guess. I just don’t like children being compared to garbage or pollutants.
But she really isn’t hurting anyone but here own self-image.

  6. Exactly right — she’s not hurting anyone, so let her have all her looney thoughts! As long as she doesn’t try and enforce them on me…

  7. It is interesting to see some of the ridiculous tripe some folks can come up up with. Maybe their job is to keep us entertained, until of course, someone decides to make the idea HR number whatever coming up for a vote!

  8. It takes all kinds to make the world go ’round.

  9. There will be some people, polecats, who will try to curtail the numbers of children people are allowed to have. Just wait..and this will be a stated reason, one of many. Somewhere some loony politician is getting a glimmer in their eye on articles like this and forming policy ideas.

  10. Just saw this evening where in one state some dingy nurse (no offense Raven) who wants to raise other people’s children has got a state legislator to sponsor a bill forbidding parents from spanking their children!!!!! I think it was in MA, but at any rate, I guess the bill has zero support, but the digbat control freak liberals are out there trying. For the record, I believe all options should be exhausted and utilized before resorting to the “old fashioned spanking”, but if your child is endangering him/herself and others, then spanking is an option. My parents spanked me a few times and it worked for me… I think. LOL! At any rate, my point is, a parent should be free to decide on how they want to discipline a child. As long as they don’t do bodily injury, the government needs to stay out of it.

  11. Yup, that was Mass. Raven says they tried that before, but it didn’t go anywhere last time. I’m just waiting for them to just take your child from you after delivery — sure would save a lot of red tape.

  12. Shades of the former Soviet Union. You have a baby, but they leave the baby with you until it is eating solid food and potty trained, then it’s swoop!!! Off to Government Boarding school to be endoctrinated by the state and to let the state determine “who you will be” in the future.
I’d say we are half to two-thirds of the way there!

  13. And you are describing the dream-world of most of today’s left.
