Alan Mills for House Representative?

So there’s the fellow, Alan Mills, who is running against Karen Ray in North Carolina’s 95th House district this year. Someone told me that he was walking around my neighborhood this past weekend, but I missed him. He did leave a door hanger at my house. Since I’m not a huge fan of Miss Ray, I checked out his flyer.

At the very start, he claims to be “conservative.” Well, years ago, that meant something. Today, just about anyone politically to the right of Hillary Clinton claims to be a conservative, too. As I’ve mentioned, I hope to nail down exactly what that means in North Carolina when I attend (and live blog) the North Carolina Conservative Leadership Conference this year. So I can’t give someone points for claiming to be conservative any more. Next.

He’s got three bullet points — presumably his big issues. #1 and #3 are the same: “Iredell County isn’t getting enough cash from Raleigh.” Oh, and state government spending is increasing too much.

So let’s see if I’ve got this right — government is spending too much money — but mainly only because they’re not giving enough to Iredell County. Does this mean he wants MORE money for the county? It sure sounds like it. And he’s going to get that by reducing government spending? No chance. I know how Raleigh works. If he wants more cash for Iredell, he can get it — as long as he votes for even MORE cash for other counties. So he supports more government spending, basically.

He wants more government cash for “better schools and better jobs.” Neither one of those things is a function of government. Government is NOT supposed to be a “jobs for the stupid” program. Government shouldn’t be in the business of creating jobs, period! But Mr. Mills supports using government to create jobs.

His other big points is that government’s corrupt and Jim Black, Democrat Speaker of the House is in a federal jail. Yeah, I’m pretty sure no one cares any more. He’s gone — but people still elected him after it was revealed what he did, before he was convicted.

So it’s not looking good for Mr. Mills. Let’s turn the door card over, shall we?

On the other side is a bunch of information about Mr. Mills — “personal, professional, and political:”

Degree in Education
Graduate of Law School
Former High School Teacher
Founder of Law Practice
Member of the Chamber of Commerce
Member of the State Bar Assn

Wow. I guess there’s a tiny chance that someone could make it through all that without being completely and totally indoctrinated into the school of massive government, but I bet not. People in education are taught that government is supreme to all powers on the planet earth. People in Law School are taught there is quite literally no such thing as right and wrong, only what the law says. The Chamber of Commerce is a business organization that uses government to limit competition.

After the person left the door hanger on my door, I walked around outside, looking for him. One of my neighbors said that Mr. Mills was in the neighborhood. I really wanted to talk to him. From what I’m reading, this fellow is just barely to the right of Mrs. Bill Clinton. He appears to support government in just about every way possible. Sorry, but there’s no way I could support this guy without some strong assurances from him.

You see, I’m not looking for the “perfect” candidate. I’m just looking for someone who honestly wants to reduce government and increase freedom. I want someone who believes government is supposed to derive its power from the people, instead of dictating to the people right and wrong. Unfortunately, it looks like I’m not going to have anyone like that to vote for at any level of the elections this year.

  1. Ogre, I totally agree. In no way can a man who has the same background as John Edwards (just on a smaller scale) think of considering himself a conservative. People such as Mr. Mills are one of the main reasons why our insurance costs are rising every day. Lawyers like Mr. Mills are another reason why we can not find healthcare from quality doctors. He is simply putting good people out of business with his frivolous lawsuits against the doctors and in turn making himself very wealthy.

  2. I wish we could have a choice of someone other than the Socialist Democrat Party or the Socialist Republican Party to pick from in North Carolina. However, the people who make the laws will simply not allow competition in the political arena.

The other day I was looking at the Alan Keyes for President forums where they listed all the states and progress towards ballot access for Mr. Keyes. North Carolina was basically listed as impossible for anyone other than a Republican or Democrat. And that’s the way the politicians in Raleigh like it.
