Have you heard? Jim Snyder is running for Lt. Governor in North Carolina. He says that he’s a “conservative” (whatever that means any more). Browsing his issues page, I was confused.

At the top of the page, he laments that North Carolina is “behind” other states in many areas — like education and “safety of children.” He says we “need” 258 schools and that our state is overflowing with unsafe water. He says our bridges are “substandard” and that communities are dying because they don’t have sewage capacity. And he implies that as Lt. Governor, he will fix everything. He’s starting to sound like Obama there — government is the solution to everything.

Then, later on down the page, he says he supports the 2nd amendment, children from conception, and that taxes are too high. I wonder how he’s going to build 258 schools while lowering taxes. I wonder how he’s going to “fix” all our streams while trying to “stop government expansion.” He complains about the $800 million being spent on educating illegals, but then stops short of saying he’d actually stop that spending.

Then again, I wonder if words have any meaning today. After all, no one ever holds a politicians accountable for campaign promises. Candidates are now expected to lie. And if they’re lying during their campaign, they might as well lie when they’re in office — most of them start running for re-election the day after they win, anyway.

So, I’m going to try and contact Mr. Snyder and see if I can get any “yes or no” answers out of him on some of these issues. Are there any question you’d like to see answered by him? If so, just toss them here in the comments, and I’ll see if I can get some answers for you. All are welcome to ask questions — just try and keep them somehow related to the Lt. Governor’s job or issues he raises on his web pages. Questions about the Iraq war have nothing to do with the NC Lt. Governor.
