Charlotte Democrats Almost Oppose Tax Increase
When I saw the headlines this morning, I wet ‘em. The headlines claimed that the Charlotte City Council “Votes Against Increasing Water Rates.” I couldn’t believe it. The Charlotte City Council is permanently Democrat. I don’t think in all of recorded history the Democrats on that council have ever voted against a tax increase (call it what you want, when government gets more of my money, that’s a tax increase). I was shocked. Then I read the details.
They didn’t actually vote against the increase in money transfers from working people to the government. Instead, they just postponed the decision. They asked for “more details” from the utilities bureaucrats before they made a final decision. The facts:
Government used force to make people use less water. Therefore, the utilities commission “raised” less money. Now the bureaucrats are demanding more money because they can’t stand spending less. So they want to raise the rates on that water you’re limited in using.
I strongly suspect the main reason the Democrats deferred their decision is because a lot of people showed up at the council meeting. My guess is that they hope less people will show up to complain in a month — and they’ll raise the rates then, when no one is looking. Anyone want to take me up on that bet?
