Ogre’s Politics and Views

Recently, I’ve seen a few news articles whining about the “arms race” with police. The articles complain that police “have” to have more “assault” weapons (no reason to use proper English or words, right?) because individuals have more of them.

Perhaps people don’t have any more of them than before. Think about it for a minute. Maybe there’s not actually an issue with more guns, more crime, or even more weapons. Instead, perhaps it’s the enforcement. Perhaps the reason there’s a problem is because police are more and more aggressive. Perhaps it’s because the police are enforcing more laws that crush more freedom. Maybe it’s because people are absolutely terrified of the police — and the people know that it no longer matters who is right and who is wrong.

Maybe people are starting to realize that when the police show up, you’re going to jail, even if you’ve not done a thing wrong. You might get locked up for living at the wrong address. You might go to jail for telling an ambulance driver you don’t want his help. Heck, you might even go to jail for teaching your child that homosexuals are plain wrong.

Perhaps we have reached the point where people realize they’re either going to jail or they’re going to die. And some people might actually be choosing to die, perhaps by taking a few of their oppressors with them.
