Is Treason Possible?

One of the things I write about often is the meanings of words. I often lament when words completely lose their meanings. For example, we’ve had discussions here about the meaning of “conservative.” I’m afraid that word has no meaning any more. I am anxious to see at the North Carolina Conservative Leadership Conference how that word is defined there.

In the meantime, I wonder about another word: Treason. Is it possible? Can you think of anything that someone can do today that actually rises to that level? It’s a pretty serious thing, but can you picture any court actually agreeing that someone has committed that crime today? Grant Jones suggests that there are a LOT of people who have committed that crime. I tend to believe him — but I don’t think there’s a court in the country that does.

I really think we need to start over. This government isn’t working, except by random chance and brute force. I prefer freedom.

  1. “Free speech and Political Correctness” have pushed Treason out the door. If you go by my parent’s generation, Jane Fonda betrayed her country by collaberating with the enemy and should have been hung. But according to the “left and political correctness”, we had to view it as Jane’s right to free speech, So she never went to court or jail, let alone getting hung.
John Kerry accused American Soldiers of many, many war crimes without evidence, witnesses or documentation during the first winter soldier hearings… and was never punished for that. I think he is a lying traitor to do such a thing against the US and military. “Traitor” just means someone who is free to express their opinions even if it hurts others.

  2. I think you’re right. I don’t think anyone will ever be convicted of that crime again in this country.

  3. Rise up against the government and see if you don’t get charged with treason.

  4. They won’t. They’ll charge me with obstruction of justice, assault, interference with a public officer, and other such charges, but I’d bet they wouldn’t charge you with treason. Even McVeigh didn’t get charged with treason.

  5. Traitor — Now that is a word I see a lot these days. When I see the Governor of North Carolina, I think Traitor, especially to his oath of office to protect NC — Sorry, letting in over 600,000 illegal aliens is NOT protecting North Carolina nor her interest. When I see my Congressmen, David Price, I know he is a traitor to the people who elected him — once again, will NOT take issue with illegal aliens, nor the corporate interest that keeps him in power. I consider our Most of the Federal Government to be Traitors for not enforcing the laws of this great nation. I can see the upcoming fall elections around Wake county in a few months. Picture signs with “David Price, Traitor to America, (Picture of mexikan flag)” I think it will send a powerful message.

  6. Good point about McViegh. He did get put to death and that was shocking. I thought he’d probably just get a room with a view at Club Fed. Sadly, I think we end up rewarding traitorous conduct by electing traitors to Congress (Kerry and Murtha) and promoting their business ventures so they just get rich (Fonda).

  7. But remember — McVeigh was NEVER charged with treason, just murder. And Wupto, while that is the “old” meaning of the word treason, I’m quite sure you will not ever see government charging any other member of government with “Treason” — at least not in a court of law. There’s no question most disobey the Constitution and are treasonous — it’s just that no one has the power to do anything about it any more.

  8. ““David Price, Traitor to America, (Picture of mexikan flag)” I think it will send a powerful message.”

Sounds like a T-Shirt we should all be wearing these days! Wuptdo, I feel your pain and the pain of countless letdown Americans.

  9. You might get arrested for committing a “hate crime” if you do that. Or for “offending” or “interfering” with a government official.
