St. Patrick’s Day

Happy Day! Oh, happy day! It’s one of my favorite holidays of the year. Government employees still haven’t convinced the government powers to make it an official slacker day, but I can see that coming soon.

I’ve got a bit O the Irish in me, but not a lot. Those who have some know it doesn’t take enough.

I’ll be working today, but perhaps checking carefully the policy on drinking at work (because that’s what the Irish do, right?). So, to support that idea, here’s 15 reasons to allow drinking at work:

1. It’s an incentive to show up.

2. It reduces stress.

3. It leads to more honest communications.

4. It reduces complaints about low pay.

5. It cuts down on time off because you can work with a hangover.

6. Employees tell management what they think, not what management wants to hear.

7. It helps save on heating costs in the winter.

8. It encourages carpooling.

9. Increases job satisfaction because if you have a bad job you don’t care.

10. It eliminates vacations because people would rather come to work.

11. It makes fellow employees look better.

12. It makes the cafeteria food taste better.

13. Bosses are more likely to hand out raises when they are wasted.

14. Salary negotiations are a lot more profitable.

15. If something does something stupid on the job, it will be quickly forgotten.

Come back later today for more Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations (and drunk singing)! Yes, I am very much taking a break from the political world today. We all need that now and then.

Oh, and before I forget, damn Scots. :)

  1. Agreed… other than writing my legislators to push for a law making it “manditory to drink” at WORK!!! LOL!!!
My mother’s mother’s (grandma) family came here in 1718 from Coleraine, No. Ireland. Since my Gr. Gr G-ma was full blooded Cherokee… I have more “original American blood though. :-) I wonder when they will make the “Great Spirit Day”????

    Another blessing! My personal favorite!

    An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

  2. “Great Spirit Day?” Geez, don’t give the left any ideas! :)

  3. Happy St. Patty’s Day, Mr. Ogre!

  4. Happy drinking day! I mean, St. Pat’s Day.

  5. Heheheh… that’s exactly how I was greeting people at work, yesterday! I got a few looks.

Don’t know if it was the beer leprechaun on my shirt and the green digi boonie hat, or the greeting…

  6. Maybe it was the frosty mug of green beer in your hand that you were drinking and not sharing with them…
