CMS: Punish the Responsible

CMS, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, continues to attempt to punish those who are responsible. My friend Brian and I have had recent discussions about whether the current government (public) school system has any value. This incident gives more evidence that it is a pile of crap that has no hope of being saved (in my humble opinion, of course).

This is about bureaucrats who are irresponsible and want to reward other who are irresponsible by punished those who are responsible. And again, this is drastically different than in just the past decade of public schooling. Are you ready?

The bureaucrat, Cindy Hobbs, says that she wants to punish people. Why? Hold on to your seat. You see, the school system has a horrible system that says that your child pays nothing for lunch. Instead, all charges are put on an “account.” Now if you’re lucky enough to “qualify,” other people (taxpayers) pay all charges on your child’s account. Sure, you might be able to afford cell phones, HBO, plasma TVs, and new cars, but you still might qualify to get all your child’s bills paid for you. However, there’s some people who aren’t lucky enough to qualify for getting their bills paid.

Instead, these people get charged the money for their child’s lunch. Now apparently a number of these people don’t feel like paying their bills. Therefore, the school started calling these people, requesting that they pay their bills. Some of these people complained. Yes, you read that right — they COMPLAINED that the school was calling them to ask them to pay their bills. Amazingly, this irresponsible bureaucrat felt sorry for them! Instead of telling the miserable, irresponsible people to shut up and pay their damn bills, the bureaucrats decided that she would rather make OTHER PEOPLE pay the bills! Yes, that’s right — if you owe money to CMS, just tell them you don’t want them calling you, and they’ll make SOMEONE ELSE pay your bills.

What a great system. But wait, there’s more.

You see Irresponsible Bureaucrat Cindy Hobbs decided that it wasn’t fair that some people got their bills paid for free, so she has a solution — pay EVERYONE’S bills for them! Oh, hooray! After all, it’s not HER damn money. It’s someone else’s money that she’s using, so she honestly doesn’t give a damn. It’s “For The Children,” so there’s no amount of money or force that can be too much. You people who pay your bills? Screw you. So sayeth the government.

When I was in school, it was quite different — and MUCH more effective. You see, if a kid didn’t have money for lunch, THEY DIDN’T GET LUNCH! What a concept! And you know what? Kids learned damn fast that if they wanted to eat, they needed to remember their lunch money (or to bring along a sandwich). Now go ahead and whine that some people can’t afford it. That’s total and complete B.S. and everyone knows it. These people who are getting their lunches paid for free can afford PB&J sandwiches if they damn well want to. So to claim they can’t afford it is a total lie.

You see, the poor, miserable, selfish bureaucrats “Don’t want to see a child cry,” so they want to give them free stuff WITH YOUR MONEY. Hey bureaucrats, if you’re so concerned with giving away free stuff, how about you use your own damn money instead of using government and guns to take that money from people who earn it. People who do this claim they’re nice and kind, but in reality, they are some of the worst people around — because they use other people to do their dirty work so they can steal money to give out as they please.

But you know what? Under the current miserable government system, this isn’t going to change soon. The bureaucrats are spending literally hundreds of thousands of dollars of money that’s not theirs to give away to those they like. Why is it okay for bureaucrats to do this, but it’s wrong if I rob a bank to give money to the United Way? It’s exactly the same thing, but when government does it, it’s legal.

No, the government school system IS beyond hope. It has no redeeming value. And in this instance, it’s teaching children that using others to commit theft is just fine.

  1. The video I posted a while back about the LA charter school surprised me in a couple of ways. One was the verbal violence of the teacher’s union. The other was the sheer magnitude of the education bureaucracy. There was some quote in it saying that the LA school district had something like 200,000 non-teaching employees. That’s insane.

The education industry has gone cancerous with out of control financial and administrative growth.

  2. That video and this incident help show and support the idea that the government education system is about money and nothing else.
