Lance Sigmon on Healthcare

Lance Sigmon is running against Patrick McHenry for the Republican nomination in the 10th Republican Congressional district in NC. He is, of course, running as a “conservative.” I just read about his position on health care. It starts out good enough:

I do not support any form of “universal health care.”

I don’t believe it’s possible to come up with a ‘one size fits all’ system that will provide quality and affordable health care—a concept which virtually everyone demands in our modern society.

But then, as usual, the devil is in the details. Reading on, one finds out that he believes that government can provide a solution to this problem government has created:

So what can Congress do to make the health care system more efficient, more available, and less expensive?

There’s only ONE thing Congress can do to help freedom and health care: GET OUT OF THE WAY! It seems that Mr. Sigmon almost realizes that:

As most of us know, the federal government’s history of trying to “fix” problems usually results in more taxes, more bureaucracy, and less efficiency, which could be far worse than the system we currently have.

But he doesn’t really go that far:

I will support any measures that will lower the costs or improve the delivery of quality health care to as many in our population as possible. I also will strive to ensure that increasing health care costs and insurance regulations do not restrict small businesses from offering coverage to their employees.

So not too bad, in terms of freedom. But no concrete details, either…
