Prayer: No Legitimate PurposeS

So says the government in Elmira, NY. A trial has begun that pits the right of people to bow their heads in a public park. The police there claim that’s against the law. The police arrested people who wants to bow their heads in a public park. The people didn’t want to do anything else. They weren’t going to talk, yell, announce, scream, or even hold up signs. They just wanted to bow their heads in silence in a public park.

Instead, they were arrested for “disorderly conduct.” The assistant police chief actually told these people that their intentions “serves no legitimate purpose,” therefore, he was empowered to stop them. Apparently, in this chief’s mind, HE, personally, gets to decide who can do what in HIS park.

Remember that old Constitution? It sure is gathering dust in a museum somewhere — because we’re not using it. Freedom of speech? Freedom of religion? It’s a “living” document, I guess, which means if the police don’t like you or your ideas (such as being Christian), then they now have the power to tell you what you’re allowed to do in public.

If this trial ends up in a victory for the police, I only have to wonder if all Christians will have to start wearing green crosses, or if the government will just implant microchips in all Christians so we can be sure they won’t bother people with their silent prayer. I guess I shouldn’t be, but I suppose I’m most amazed that people can actually stand up and defend the actions of these policemen.

  1. I thank God I live in a town that hasn’t lost its mind yet. We have a community sponsored church service for everyone in town in a City Park, with the message being delivered from a stage set up by city workers, on the Sunday closest to the 4th of July.

This story out of New York is so crazy, it is almost hard to believe. What the police did violates AT LEAST 3 of the 5 parts of the 1st Amendment. Freedom to freely express religion, freedom of speech, and right to peaceably assemble.

We are rapidly approaching a point of no return in this country. It is going to come to a new revolution.

There is a reason that political correctness is a DISEASE. It causes your brain to eat itself.

  2. You better hope lawyers with the ACLU don’t happen through your town on that day — you can bet they’ll find SOMEONE to complain and they’ll file a lawsuit against you. And most often, the city officials cave when attacked with those lawsuits.

Constitution? No such thing. It is no longer the law of the land. Anyone who claims it is, is just dreaming.
