Republic of Montana?
So, who’s up for moving to Montana? It’s really not as bad as you might think, weather-wise, from what I’ve read. Their winters aren’t as bad as, say, Minnesota or North Dakota, especially in the west, it appears. Sure, they’ve got two Democrat Senators, but that may not matter soon.
Have you heard about the numerous elected officials that are warning the United States that if the Supreme Court claims that the second amendment doesn’t apply to individuals that the state of Montana has the right to remove itself from the union, based on contract violations? In other words, many in the state government of Montana are saying that Montana joined the union based on the idea that the second amendment was an individual right. Now if the federal government decides it’s not, the state is within it’s rights to leave.
No, there’s no call for secession yet, but you can bet I’ll be watching this one closely. There could be some good that would come from a bad decision by the Supreme Court. Of course, if I were to bet on the Supreme Court, based on their past history, I think in the upcoming case, they just won’t rule on the second amendment and will instead worry about some technicality or will send it back to a lower court because they don’t want to deal with it. We’ll see soon enough.

I’ve been looking and drooling for some time now.
They have a lot of land, wild horses, etc. It just looks “freer”.
Get a feel for it here -> http://www.montanarealestate.com/
Oh, if this is true and it happens. I’m so packing up the family and moving.
It would be absolutely wonderful to see. Seriously. I’m not sure the state would do it — after all, it does have two Democrats for Senators. And, of course, there’s LOTS and lots of federal land there — which mean the fed wouldn’t let them go, and lots of federal jobs would be in trouble. I’m actually afraid the states are now too closely tied to the federal government that none would ever DARE leave, just because they need the money and jobs.
But I can dream.
I’d love to see the unfettered Democracy run amok. I can see freedom-lovers and socialists both descending on the state in an attempt to prove their model works. Then I can also see the socialists giving up because they don’t like the cold weather in the winter…
I read a comment somewhere that there are those who think American taxpayers should revolt and just not pay taxes. That would be interesting. Just arrange to go 1040 instead of W2, invest the money they normally pull out of your check and at tax time thumb your nose and send the IRS hate mail instead of a check! LOL!!! It could come to that you know!
Contagion, did you go out on that link… can you imagine waking up in the morning and having a beautiful mountain view out your window???? Heavenly and free….
That’s a great view on that link.
As for not paying taxes — just ask Ed Brown and thousands of others what happens when you don’t pay taxes — the government shows up and jails or kills you. It would take numbers in the tens of thousands to actually have enough resistance that the government wouldn’t use force to put that down.
Yes, and it would probably be just like grade school. Everybody signing on to be “kewl” and when it comes down to doing it, only a few would and be left standing with egg on their faces and huge lawyer bills! Not everyone has the kind of courage our forefathers had when it comes to rebellion against government.
As the current Free State Project can attest to, unfortunately…
I’m on that bus. Me and Mr. Shiney, Mr. Bang, Mr. Kaboom and a few other trusty rusty’s!!!
I’m telling you, I think that would be incredibly exciting to see and be a part of. I’m just not sure if the people of MT are all that interested.
Now I have a real excuse for moving back home. Don’t know how the Big Sky Republic will run financially except maybe conficate ALL the federal land and sell it dirt cheap to all us Montana refugees outside of MT and those who want to become Montanan citizens. I am bringing my guns(naturally), at least they won’t try prying them from my cold dead fingers. Go Grizzleys
That’s the most difficult part of that potential action — all the federal employees in the state would not like to be suddenly unemployed finding they might actually have to work for a living suddenly!
