Morals are Unethical
Well, according to the American Counseling Association, they are. And if you have Christian beliefs, you are NOT welcome in the American Counseling Association, nor apparently, the American Psychological Association — at least according to their positions.
And to give these group even less credibility, they openly deny facts. The ACA is now claiming that it’s basically not possible to change from being “gay” to being not gay. That’s what they claim. In fact, they are directing their member counselors to tell people that. If a person comes to a counselor and asks with help to be not gay, the counselors are now supposed to tell these people who are asking for help that it’s not possible.
Remember that next time you seek help — the ACA is not a place where people with morals are welcome.

I have known many “gays” during my life. Most are individuals with troubled childhoods, dysfunctional homes, The Gay lifestyle doesn’t lend itself to normalicy. I’ve never known anyone who was “happy being gay”. Another thing I have come to understand… they can hunt for chomosomes, they can look for enzymes or brain chemicals, but the bottom line is… it’s a choice influenced by inner psychology and environmental influences… period.
It seems the psychological/clincal has decided it is better to make excuses for people, than to honestly try to help them. Obviously, way too many Gays have entered the profession, looking to justify their status.
I have taken no stand on whether gays can change or not, but my stand would be that there are some who act gay but are disturbed by it. In the older DSM III we calle this Ego-Dystonic Homosexuality. Those who were gan and were OK with that were called Ego-Syntonic Homosexuals.
Then, the politico’s in the profession got involved and decided that gay’s not wanting to be gay were not ok and cast the rest in the choice behavior catagories. That movement was and is WRONG. Some do not want to be gay and actively seek to change and that is OK. After all, if a female decides that they don’t like being female and are surgically altered to be males the profession supports that don’t they? methinks that is called hypocracy folks.
I do believe, and have done enough research to know to my mind at least that the majority of gay’s are born that way. And about 1-3% of the population is gay. This is born out by animal studies in which we see about !% of almost every speices is “homosexual” as adult sexual behavior. Do animals have free choice? Nope, so the indicators are that it is the way the brain is structured.
This does NOT make gay’s any less God’s children and that is something that we should all remember.
Now, because of the stupidity of the ACA and the APA in many respects, I no longer am a member of the ACA and haven’t been for about 10 years. They just don’t represent me as a Professional Counselor and until they do, I’ll not re-join.
I’m very glad to hear you’re not a member of the ACA, GM! I was wondering…
But if there are (and there are) people who used to “be gay” and who no longer are, then there has to be the possibility of change. As you mention, if people can change their sex biologically, why not mentally?
I think it is also a horrible hypocrisy that counselors are being told to NOT help people who want help changing. I wonder if I said that I had trouble with alcohol if they’d not offer me help changing because this organization happens to support people drinking.
I firmly believe those who are gay and who don’t wish to be, were influenced in a tough way, to be so. They were pressured and pushed into the lifestyle…to please who I don’t know…
A lot of younger people feel pressure to become gay too- they are easily manipulated by adults who see some sign of homosexual-ness in the youth. They exploit this.
Once the kid grows up and perhaps has experienced some real life, he or she comes to the realization that they are not gay after all. It’s a rough road to come back from too.
And to listen to the gay lobby, Raven, it’s simply not possible to come back down that road. And now that lobby has the ACA in their pocket, supporting them — denial of reality is such a sad state, especially when supported by a group (the ACA) that’s supposed to help people.
