Another Candidate for “Change”

Lance Sigmon is challenging Patrick McHenry for North Carolina’s 10th district seat in Congress. This district is a Republican district. The Democrats of North Carolina have drawn it to ensure it elects Republicans. Therefore, it’s also a large district (that’s how NC gerrymandering works — cram the majority Republicans into large districts and give Democrats smaller districts so they can stay in power).

There are numerous questions about McHenry. There are serious ethical questions about how McHenry won, including still unanswered issues about numerous college students claiming McHenry’s house as a residence just long enough to vote for him. Members of his staff have also been arrested for voter fraud. So, a number of people in the district really don’t trust McHenry.

Along comes Mr. Sigmon:

Declaring a frustration with scandals in both parties, and a mission “to restore the ethics and honesty voters deserve in government,” Newton attorney and retired U.S. Air Force officer, Lance Sigmon, today formally announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives, representing the 10th District of North Carolina.

So would there be any difference? The first two issues Mr. Sigmon says he will address are illegal immigration and “Creating jobs.” On immigration, he’s on the right side — stop giving stuff free to criminal alien invaders. But then he goes back to today’s politics: he’s going to use government to take cash from people who earn it to create jobs for other people.

All Hail Father Government!

You see, if you can get Brother Sigmon elected, he will ensure that government will employ you — even if you’re worthless, cannot work, and have no skills — he will still take from working people to give you free stuff. This is the primary function of today’s government: redistribution of wealth, often via “jobs” programs. Mr. Sigmon isn’t the only one doing it, just the latest one — because it appears that in this country today, you cannot win an election if you don’t promise to take from the “rich” and give to the “poor.”

Updated: Forgot to put the link to his web page. Is it me, or does that layout look a LOT like Ron Paul’s?

  1. You know, the thing that makes me laugh is that you take one singular statement (”Creating Jobs”) and twist it into a scheme where Sigmon plans to make the government give jobs like candy.

Read the page- he’s not all about creating jobs in the “let’s invent jobs in the government!” sense. There is nothing wrong with letting “Brother Sigmon” encourage job growth, because so far as I see on his page, there is no mention of some sort of redistribution of wealth program you’ve invented as some sort of straw man argument.

I agree with you, I don’t want the government taking from the upper tiers and redistributing to the lower tiers, but let’s not run around saying candidates are up for that unless we really know well that’s their plan. I think it’s high time one of us asked him that question on his blog thing.

  2. I’d admit, I haven’t gone through and checked out every position for Mr. Sigmon. And I certainly love that we have a choice this year in the 10th district.

But I got an email promoting Mr. Sigmon. It highlighted two things: illegals and “Creating Jobs.” Now maybe he doesn’t mean he wants to create jobs, but that’s what the page says — and I do not think government should have ANYTHING to do with creating jobs for any one at any time. That’s NOT a function of government in a free society — because the ONLY way that government can “create” anything is to TAKE from someone else.

Government literally creates nothing. They have no product. They have no sales. They produce nothing. Anything they do, anything at all, can only be done with cash they take from me.

So while he may not be for directly taking money from me in the form of taxes, if he’s “working” to “create jobs” by using government force, I’m opposed to it. But as I mentioned, it appears the only way to get elected today IS to promise to “create” things for people.

  3. And hey — thanks for stopping by and adding to the discussion!
