Criminal NC House Democrats?
An announcement from Thom Goolsby:
January 16, 2008
Dear Republican Friends,
In 2004, I had the honor of running for Attorney General of North Carolina. Because of the hard work and dedication of my supporters, our campaign finished a strong second in the Republican primary, coming within three points of winning the Republican nomination. For all the kindness and support you gave me during that campaign, I thank you.
Since the 2004 primary, I have married and become the father of a beautiful baby girl, I have started my own law firm, I have continued to host my radio and television shows and I have fulfilled my responsibilities as an adjunct professor at the Campbell University Law School. In short, the Lord has blessed my family and me.
During the past three years, I have received many letters, telephone calls and emails from Republican activists, urging me to again seek the office of Attorney General. If the primary election were held today, given my statewide name recognition, I know I would do very well. However, recent events have caused me to decide against running for Attorney General and to instead strongly consider another course of action.
State Representative Thomas Wright, a Democrat, is under indictment for crimes involving financial improprieties, fraud and obstruction of justice. A bipartisan House Select Committee has voted to charge Representative Wright with misconduct and the entire House may move to expel him from the Chamber. In the face of these charges and his likely guilt, Wright has stated that he will not resign and will seek re-election! I am determined to make certain he is stopped.
If Thomas Wright is again the Democratic candidate for the North Carolina House, I intend to run against him. The district in which I would run usually votes Democratic, but I believe that the good people of New Hanover and Pender Counties will vote to restore honorable leadership no matter the Party. I will fight to restore integrity to this House seat and I will not rest until Thomas Wright no longer represents my district.
What lies before me is a long, tough road, but this Marine is ready for the challenge.
God Bless,
Thom Goolsby, JD, MBA
Candidate for Attorney General, 2004
Former Chairman, New Hanover County Republican Party
Imagine that — a Democrat charged with crimes, and the House votes to charge him with misconduct — and he plans on running for election again. Since he lives in a district that was made to elect him, he’s likely to win again. Hopefully if he does run, Mr. Goolsby will beat him.
