Oscar Pistorius: Waaaaah!
Oscar Pistorius is whining. A lot. Why? Because Oscar wants to compete in the Olympics, and he’s not allowed to. No, it’s not because he’s a professional athlete — that used to mean you couldn’t be there, but no longer. Now, MOST Olympians are professionals — which strongly detracts from the event. No, Oscar isn’t allowed to join in because he’s wanting to use superior mechanical devices to help him win.
Fortunately, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said, “No.” When Oscar wanted to use his mechanical devices to compete. The IAAF clearly took the position that since people aren’t allowed to use performance-enhancing drugs in the sporting events, that they also should not be able to use bionics or other performance-enhancing mechanical devices in the events.
But that’s not good enough for Oscar. Oscar wants to use his performance-enhancing mechanical devices. And yes, Oscar’s going to “sue” them to force them to let him join in. If he wins his lawsuit, I shall immediately start work on my own mechanical devices, such as an outboard motor for use in the swimming events, and I, too, shall demand to be allowed to compete.
Oh, but you see, I’m not supposed to criticize Oscar. Oscar is above the rest of the world. Oscar is superior and above criticism. You see, Oscar should be allowed to compete because he’s a double-amputee. Since he’s “differently abled” (or whatever the current PC word is for crippled), you’re not allowed to criticize him. Oscar, you’re a selfish bum.

Knowing the competitors, they will boycott the events rather than get beat by a blade runner. I wonder if Wheaties will still want to give a lucrative contract to a mechanically enhanced blade runner who wins the Gold with an unfair advantage?
Unfortunately, if non-mechanical people boycott, then the event will simply become a mechanical challenge event to see who can develop the fastest human-powered machine that will be allowed to “run.”
It seems the Olympic Committee and their lawyers decided it wasn’t worth losing all the other competitors, and so they “banned Mr. Pistorius” from competition. Now he can waste his money on a stupid lawsuit. Apparently the committee is not worried.
I hope the Olympic Committee doesn’t have to pay too many fees.
bull! OSCAR DID NT SAY HE WAS ABOVE THE REST!
IF OSCAR’S PROSTHETICS GVE HM N ADVNTAGE, HW COME OTHER PARALYMPIC ATHLETES CANNOT RUN LIKE HIM???? HE WORKS N TRAIS XTREMELY HARD! IVE SEEN HIM PRACTISE N U WANNA COME HERE N SAY HE IS SELFISH! U SPINELESS SWINE! U DONT KNOW WAT YOUR SAYING!
OSCAR COULD ONLI RUN IN THE PARALYMPICS, BUT HE’S BETTER THEN THT, FASTER… SO HE WIL RISE ABOVE ADVERSITY!!!!!!
Well hey, Julia. Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you feel that way about Oscar. I’m glad he works hard. I’m very glad he rises above the adversity.
But it’s still quite clear — if one person is allowed to use mechanical devices in the Olympics, then everyone should be allowed to — that’s only fair to everyone.
Looks like Julia is a top notch special olympian in the SPELLING BEE! (Hugs, Julia!!!!!!) As for Oscar, maybe he’ll be happier in the “Specially Abled-lympics”……….. but probably not. Me, I’m still waiting for that two foot high basket and an NBA contract, all those tall guys have kept me from my destiny (and my fortune) long enough!
I saw recently that this decision was overturned and that Oscar or anyone else with mechanical devices will be permitted to complete against those without mechanical devices. So now the Olympics will be a game to see who can build the fastest or most powerful machine.
You know very well thats not gonna happen. I’m just so glad that Oscar might be at the olympics and everyone who is against him is clearly afraid. Its called tallent and besides all the other ‘DISABLED” athletes will prolly never do/achieve what Oscar is and has been achieving in the last few months. I’m just sure that it takes a lot to fight against the world. He could very well just compete in the Paralympics but even he know’s that he is better then that. With that said, Oscars proshetics might be what bitter ppl call, ‘MACHINES” but it doesn’t matter anymore. THE BATTLE has been won, let the games begin so ja!!!!!
gosh, Daryl that lil spellin comment was tad bit immature hmmm…
Well actually, it already IS a competition to see who can build the best machine. Oscar is just the first.
From what I’ve heard, he won’t be able to get into this year’s Olympics, but he’s shooting for 2012. So yes, let him compete. And let the Olympics become even more of a corporate joke.
Totally agree with Ogre’s last comment here…. oh, and Julia, congratulations on at least finding your CAPS LOCK. Much better! Immature? Well, this isn’t the Special Olympics, so pardon me all to Heck if I didn’t give you the required HUG.
My main focus remains on the fact that there are categories of competition for a reason, and not adhering to them worsens sports for all. I have the same issue with letting women into men’s events so they can get a better thrill out of competing at a higher level (are we also going to let men into womens events so they can compete in a less competitive environment?) I also disagree with letting pro athletes compete for the Olympics….. We’ve cheapened a lot of things in this world by “letting everybody be equal”, to include the “Celebration of Success” in place of the Honor Roll in schools now, and it all comes back to this same issue, over and over and over again. We are NOT all equal, we simply have the same rights under the law. If we were all equal, there wouldn’t be any need for competition AT ALL, since everyone would be performing in all things in exactly the same way, with exactly the same results. And as much as I would like to be on the ice for an NHL game, I’ll be making my way on my C league hockey team, and enjoying the sport at the level I deserve, and for my ability to play, without attachments.
You’re completely right, Daryl. Since Oscar is now allowed in the Olympics, when do I get to compete in the Special Olympics? Why am I not allowed to play on the T-Ball teams? Just because of my age? Well gee, that’s just not fair.
You also hit it on the head with pros. I remember a time when the Olympics were for amateurs ONLY. If you were a paid professional in ANY sport, you could not be in the Olympics. If you were a pro baseball player, you couldn’t compete in Olympic curling! Now those were the days I really like the Olympics.
