Republican Debate
So, did you get a chance to catch the last Republican debate before the New Hampshire primaries? No, not the one last night that only included media-selected candidates, but the one before that that almost included all the candidates. The one from ABC news that was going to be replayed Sunday night on CNN. I didn’t get to see it, but I did read the transcript. It quite saddened me.
By now if you’ve read this blog any time at all, you know I’m a supporter of Ron Paul. I’m not insane, I’m not a “truther” or anything else. I’m a life long Republican (even with a Life Membership in the RNC) who feels the party has left him. I feel that Ron Paul really does have the right ideas. And I love his position on freedom and the Constitution.
However, the discussion from that debate really showed, I think, what’s wrong with this country today. Every single candidate except Paul (including the Democrats) all took exactly the same position. And they all refused to listen to any other possibilities.
Of course, the big issue is foreign policy. All the other candidates took the position that the US WILL spend more money. The US WILL continue to send military forces anywhere on the planet that the US decides to send them. The US WILL attack and kill brown people because they’re brown. The US WILL continue to attack other countries because there’s terrorists. The terrorists want to kill Americans because that’s what they do. And anyone who thinks that there’s any other solutions or possibilities is simply an idiot. In fact, anyone who even disagrees with those positions should be laughed at — according to every candidate except Ron Paul.
Supposedly, this year, every candidate is running on the theme of change. They’re all supposedly “going” to Washington to change things. They all want to do “different” things. But they ALL want to continue using the US military as the police force for the world. And if you suggest otherwise, you’re dumb and deserve ridicule. How sad that we cannot have open conversation about actual alternative and actual CHANGE in Washington.
Then again, Ron Paul could win. That’s the only way there really will be any change in Washington.

Ogre, we live in a world where people have pulled so far away from what Christ taught us that nobody knows what they are doing. The Bible tells us there will be wars and rumors of wars throughout our time in this world. I think it is the very nature of man to act out on his frustrations by waging war against any and all percieved enemies. Only one thing can change the greed and averice mankind embraces and you know what that is. If you look at all the truly great human figures in history, they are mostly warrior types with a few like Ghandi and Mother Teresa thrown into the mix.
Ghandi put up with bias, predjudice, being ridiculed, and hated for now reason. But he restored his country to the people of India without firing a shot. He was a man of Peace and Reason, and ended up being assasinated because a certain group disagreed with him. I believe Ron Paul can take it and keep on going like the energizer bunny. Just the money he has raised speaks volumes for what the American people think. The politicians are all game players, so don’t take them and the MSMs approach to him seriously. The longer this goes on, and the more I see our economy going downhill, the more I think we are destined to fail as a society. We do have an enemy out there that needs to be dealt with, but I agree with you… policing the world and killing brown people isn’t going to fix the problem. I think improving things on the domestic front, healing our economy, securing our borders and creating a sane way to process immigrants into real citizens, etc is where we need to focus. I think more people than just myself feel that way. Ron Paul is the only one that wants to “restore things” to the way the founding fathers set it up.
So true, every word of it. It’s just amazing that so many people all simply accept that the US must continue it’s path and so few will even consider any alternative. However, it’s as many Paul supports are fond of saying now (from Ghandi):
“First they laugh at you, then they ignore you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Ghandi is one of my favorite leaders in history. It may seem odd that someone who is a Christian would admire a Hindu leader, but the only one I admire more would be Jesus.
Ghandi overcame much and left his world a better place and accomplished it all through peaceful means. The world simply wasn’t ready for a man like him anymore than they were ready for a savior like Jesus. But all his ideas on perservering, self-discipline and staying with “the spirit” echoed what Jesus taught about making life better and dealing with your brothers in this world. I’m not saying Ron Paul is on the same level, but I do think he has that “strength that comes from his convictions”.
Indeed. But times like this makes it so tempting to go over to the dark side. I mean, if we’re going to be a socialist nation (which all Democrats and most Republicans propose), I might as well be one of the ones in charge, right? I mean, the only ones who prosper under socialism are the elite rulers. So maybe I should just throw in the towel and start being happy telling everyone else what’s good for them.
You know you couldn’t do that anymore than you could grow hair on the palms of your hand. I don’t think this country is going socialist… yet. Keep up the good fight Ogre.
I know I couldn’t because I have something called self-worth. But this country IS going socialist. Every last candidate for president that I’ve heard talk (except Ron Paul) supports socialist medicine. Heck, Romney has come right out and admitted that he wants to FORCE people to buy insurance. He won’t admit that he’d throw anyone in jail who refused, but that would be the logical result — and that’s what Mass is doing.
Every other candidate supports it, too. The Democrats just called it socialized medicine, while the Republicans call it “helping.”
Maybe it is time to organize a lobby for “Voters and Taxpayers” to go to Washington and lean on these people or organize a protest “Against Socialist Medicine”… wouldn’t that be a novel idea???? Organize people so when the candidates show up in SC… go to their rally with “Just Say No to Socialist Medicine” signs and T-shirts!!! If you could get 100 or 200 people who feel passionately about not wanting to be forced to get insurance or pay via taxes for people who are too tight or too lazy to get insurance for themselves, It would send a message! You have to ask yourself… What would Ghandi do? LOL!!!
Of course, that 100 or 200 people are employed and working — so they have trouble protesting. The thousands who are wards of the state who WANT free stuff from working people are unemployed — and protest for more free stuff all day because that’s what they do.
Yes, you have a point…but… There are many “retired Conservatives” and with some financing from the “working Conservatives” to pay their expenses… we could counter that Soros BS professional protester crap. Honestly, I’d donate gas money for a retired ex military man to go formally protest the socialist agenda on my behalf!!!
NOTE: The problem with Conservatives… they are used to thinking logically and fighting fair. They are so honorable and old fashioned that they don’t try to think “outside the integrity box” much. They are always concerned with doing the “right thing and the honorable thing”. If you are going to counter the leftwingers with their tendency to to “get it done even if it is by dishonest and manipulating means”, you HAVE to operate differently and reinvent the tactics used. I’m not saying be dishonest, just find ways to package the truth so it will be heard over the libtards ignorance.
Indeed — because conservatives want one thing from government — to be left alone. And it’s difficult to go to government and demand to be left alone. Instead, conservatives typically follow the golden rule — even when government types don’t.
I like that word Hoosier, “libtards,” will have to remember that. Let me paint this discussion with a broader brush. I’ve already commented on this election as change, “Well of course it’s a change, that’s why it’s called an election!” The other phrase that’s taken front and center stage is, “I want to work with the other side and bring about common solutions!” What happens when conservatives work with the other side? Look at the Kennedy/McCain immigration policy. Is this an example of compromise? The only thing compromised here was the wishes of the American people. The Arizona Senator seems good at compromising the rights of Americans. McCain/Feingold seeks to repeal parts of the First Amendment at key times during the election process. A number of supporters, through the complexity of this bill, have opened themselves to prosecution for merely supporting their candidate too close to election day or for not filing requisite reports. If participation in the political process runs afoul of election law then that law becomes suspect. The First Amendnent trumps ALL! McCain seems too wiling to “compromise” the rights of the rest of us. Lest we forget Obama, who after all is the chief “I want to work for compromise” candidate, why has no one asked him for his specific positions on civil rights legislation? Who, no doubt, will find rallying round his banner should he be elected the likes of Jackson and Sharpton, neitherof whom inspire much in the way of confidence in fair play. Obama also appears to maintain ties with radical black leaders who espouse positions with religious leaders (yes, religion is OK in this context) that are anti-American. A man by the name of Wright who is minister at Obama’s church seems to hold positions that are in no way “compromise” positions. Is Obama going to compromise here and in which direction will he compromise?
Great thoughts Jeff. That is why in my mind, Conservatives will have to develop new tactics that are still honest, but more forthcoming. Funny you should mention McCain. I know for a fact there are many prominient Viet Nam Vets who hate him with everything they have. Watch and wait, there will be much troubled water for him before the party picks thier candidate! He may well find himself exposed.
There is always a reason when someone finds it so easy to compromise with the likes of that scum Ted Kennedy! (Now do you really want me to tell you what I think of him??? LOL!!!).
I picked up the “libtard” term from either Cao, Ann Coulter or Kender, but I thought it captured “the essense” so much better than “moonbat”.
Sadly, truth has NO place in today’s politics. As a wise man once asked me, “You want to be in politics?”
I answered, “Yes, I do.”
He said, “Are you an honest man?”
I replied, “Why, yes I am.”
He said with a grin, “Now why would you want to change that?”
Tomorrow, I think, I’ll have the piece up about Obama’s church. Very scary stuff!
Well Hoosier, if you got the term “libertad” from Anne Coulter it could not have come from a better source. No one wears a ‘little black dress’ better than Ann and no one coins a phrase that sends liberals into a frenzy better than Ann If this is seen as a sexist remark, I apologize. But her pics speak for themselves as do her essays. I might also add your comments seem to gig the liberal establishment on a regular basis. I tune in regularly to read Hoosier Mom’s comments. Hey Ogre, this is not ot denigrate your comments. That’s why I have your site as a regular visitation spot not everyone will put up with my rants as you have. I hope you will continue to examine state and local politics, one is an extension of the other. As Tip O’neil once commented, “All politics are local.”
Thanks for the kind words. Indeed, while there are ups and downs, I continue to watch NC politics and US politics quite often. I think this presidential election season may be particularly depressing…
Jeff, there is why our society is sooo confused. If admiring the attrabutes of someone like Ann Coulter can be deemed sexist (and we know there are some who would do so), but when someone else issues an insult that includes referencing her as a wingnut b*tch or something like that … well they are just speaking the “truth”. I will admit, sometimes she is short on tact, but she is big on putting the truth out there along with the evidence and sources. She is proof that because a woman is attractive doesn’t mean she doesn’t possess a sharp mind too. Admiring both those qualities in the same sentence is a compliment, or at least that’s how it was viewed before ‘political correctness” came along. You know, that invention of the “Left” that they manuver and manipulate as the opportunity allows… LOL!!! I do have a tendency to admire women who can be very strong in a debate and Ann Coulter is very good at it.
The death of my “inner liberal” began when I listened to David Horowitz lecture the first time and started reading the writers on FrontPageMag which included Ann. I remember in my home while growing up, when we engaged in any lively debate, Mom and Dad always shamed us if we could not quote the sources of our opinions. Mother told me once, opinions only mean something if they are “informed opinions”. I love to research things and in looking closer at Horowitz, my inner conservative was born! LOL!!! I love the intelligent exchange of ideas, and that’s what I like about Ogre and his blog. He allows it in a respectful manner and I benefit from that.
Ogre, today is my birthday and I do feel blue at the results in NH. The thing that the election is bringing about is the idea that the majority of Americans aren’t pursuing “freedom” but rather want ot be “zombies for the government”. I was hoping today I would see some results that would indicate that people wanted more than “Change”… they wanted freedom. Don’t lose hope Ogre, things could still get interesting.
Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Sorry New Hampshire didn’t get you a nicer present…
Yes, I’m afraid that we’re way past the tipping point where the majority is now voting for government handouts. There’s no way back from that edge without violence and death.
Happy birthday Hoosier! and many more to come!
Thank you Jeff and Ogre!!! I had a theraputic massage this evening and it was great!!!! Wish we could fix the government as well as Marissa fixes the knots in my muscles!!!
If only it were that easy.
