Carolina Renaissance Festival
In the past, I’ve been encouraging everyone in range to come on out to the Carolina Renaissance Festival. Well apparently you listened. So a note for this weekend, the last weekend of the festival: Stay Home!
Nah, I’m kidding. But last weekend the weather was good and the place was packed. I mean really packed. I’ve been going there for about 5 years, and last Saturday was the most crowded I have ever seen that place. All the merchants I talked to were really happy because they were having their best days. However, because of the massive crowds, I really didn’t get very many pictures. Most of them would have been the backs of people’s heads.
So, this weekend is the very last weekend of the fair for this year. I’m going to try and get out there early this weekend, perhaps missing most of the biggest crowds. Then again, it’s supposed to be a bit chilly (highs in the 50s?), so maybe it won’t be so crowded that you can’t breathe. I might be wearing the pirate costume again, so look for me if you’re around. Last weekend I was in the pirate costume contest — but didn’t win because I think there were some professional pirates there!
Update: Check out pictures here.

Did I mention that my son went to a Ren Fest in Ohio two years ago and brought home a digereedo and a wooden mask with grass hair that was most unique? The dogs simply hated the digereedo and Morgan loved playing it with the dogs baying at him all the time. He said it sounded “cool”. Gee Whiz!
Those cheaters in the pirate costume contest should be ashamed of themselves! That’s simply unfair Ogre! I bet you were the cutest Native American Ogre turned Pirate there! Probably the cutest to ever sail the 7 Seas matey!!!!
Heh. Like I mentioned, I’m pretty sure some of those people were professional pirates. And there was lots of bribing of the judges for which I was simply unprepared, but should have expected — after all, it was PIRATES!
Arrrrggghhh! Can’t expect less eh? LOL!
I think for next year’s contest, I’m going to get some audience participation going:
Me: Give me an “R”
Audience: R!
Me: Give me an “R”
Audience: R!
Me: Give me an “R”
Audience: R!
Me: Give me an “R”
Audience: R!
Me: What’s that spell?
Audience: RRRR!
That could be just the “routine” that could get you a big WIN!!!! You might get some tips from some of the Democrat campaign managers too, because they are good at turning the tide with unfair tactics that take advantage of a niave public!!! That knowledge could be useful when dealing with Pirates and crewmates!
If I’m taking tips from Democrats, perhaps I should steal stuff from the judges and then give it to them as bribes!
The only rule given out by the judges is that they weren’t going to respond to threats.
Outstanding idea! LOL!!! To borrow from the Dem’s handbook… “Lie, cheat, steal… whatever it takes to WIN”!!!
