Well I headed on over to the Friday Feast to get my weekly share of, well, the feast, only to find that there’s no feast this week! However, in the comments I found Logtar had posted A Christmas Meme. Now it’s a bit long, at 25 questions, but I’ll see what I can do…

1. Wrapping or gift bags?

Ugh. I think gift bags are tacky, classes, and lazy. If I’m going to give someone a gift in a bag, it’s going to be the Wal-Mart bag. If I’m going to bother wrapping, it’s going to be wrapping paper. The only exception is when you get a really odd size present — then a bag might be okay.

2. Real or artificial tree?

Now Bou just put up a post discussing real vs. fake. Nearly everyone there went for fake. I think it’s a Florida thing. I had a fake tree one year and absolutely hated it. I go for the real tree every time. Heck, if I can, I’ll go chop the bugger down myself, too — using a real axe, not a chainsaw!

3. When do you put up the tree?

I think I’m with the majority here — right after Thanksgiving. I’m convinced that’s the primary reason the Friday after Thanksgiving is a holiday.

4. When do you take the tree down?

After Christmas. Duh. Usually about a week after Christmas, normally before the new year.

5. Do you like egg nog?

This is one of my most favorite things about Christmas. I love the stuff. I just drink it from the carton, it’s easier that way. I’m not as young as I used to be, so I can’t chug gallons of it at a time any more, though…

6. Favorite gift received as a child?

I was never a child. I was born old and ornery, just like I am now.

7. Do you have a nativity scene?

A? No. More than one? You bet!

8. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

Bah. No such thing. Really. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!

9. Mail or email Christmas cards?

Normally only mail. Classic and classy. But this year there’s a couple of people who I really want to send cards to that I can’t find postal mail addresses for, so I might be forced to do some email.

10. Favorite Christmas Movie?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. What?

11. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

After the day after Thanksgiving.

12. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Food. What do you eat?

13. Clear lights or colored on the tree?

Both. As many as can fit on without actually catching the tree on fire.

14. Favorite Christmas song(s)?

“O Come All Ye Faithful.” Or maybe “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” — with Bing Crosby singing it.

15. Travel at Christmas or stay home?

Stay at home. The day after is for travel.

16. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Yup. Can you?

17. Angel on the tree top or a star?

Well, I was going to say, “Angel” but after reading Logtar’s answer, I think I need to change my mind…

18. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?

Eve? What kind of weirdos are you who open them before Christmas? That’s just strange.

19. Most annoying thing about this time of year?

It’s a tossup between the mobs of stupid people in the stores and on the roads; and the ACLU and their friends who don’t want me to celebrate Christmas.

20. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or color?

The more colors, the better!

21. What do you leave for Santa?

Cookies and milk! Yay, Santa!

22. Least favorite holiday song?

I’m with Logtar — Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. I was at a nursing home the other day and the Cub Scouts sang the song to the folks there — that just seemed really, really tacky.
