NC Democrats: Criminals Okay in Legislature
Just to illustrate how important party loyalty is, take a peek at what Democrats are saying about NC Representative Thomas Wright. Now, if you’re not from NC and watching politics closely, I’m sure you have no idea who this Thomas Wright might be. He’s “served” for 15 years in the NC (”part-time”) legislature. Following in convicted felon Speaker of the House Jim Black’s footsteps (yes, he was the Democrat who is in federal prison now for his actions while leading the Democrats in Raleigh), Thomas Wright was recently arrested on six felony counts of, well, basically stealing (illegally obtaining and misusing $350,000).
And yes, these “improper funds” (stealing) were in relation to his position as a member of the General Assembly. I wonder what the record is for sitting Democrat politicians getting convicted of felonies and thrown in jail in a 2-year period.
So, while a couple of Democrats have half-heartedly called for his resignation, he’s been indicted and is currently out on bail. He’s got a court date of Dec 31 (any bets on a “continuance”?). Mr. Wright says that he has no intentions to resign. I haven’t seen any reports where he claims he’s innocent yet (and just wait for the racism charges, they’re coming) — but he’s not planning to resign his seat in the Legislature.
He could, in theory, be sent to jail as early as the first of the year. So what do other Democrats think about what should happen to him?
Fellow Democrats who hadn’t asked for his resignation earlier this year are still willing to let him decide for himself whether to stay in the Legislature for now.
In other words, he could get convicted of multiple felonies and sent to jail during his term — and his fellow Democrats in the Legislature say that it’s okay for him to actually stay on in the Legislature while in prison.
North Carolina Democrats — ruling over the peons people for over 100 years — even from prison.

Where did a lot of these ignorant Dems come from in NC????
I suspect they’re inbreeding, just like the royal families of old.
Hehehe, LOL!!! That is the only thing that explains it!
Well honestly, there is little difference between the current North Carolina government system and the inherited royal systems of the past. The biggest differences are that families don’t go to physical war with one another; and that each patriarch simply chooses who he wants to succeed him, rather than automatically selecting his firstborn son.
Other than that, it’s pretty much the same system of government.
I agree there is something wrong with NC government but the better analogy seems to be the 19th century British system of rotten boroughs. Consider this: in the past five years we have had the most powerful Democrat in the House, Jim Black, indicited and convicted for handing out monies in steakhouse bathrooms. Another Democrat operates his own slush fund, the black caucus, all Democrats, generate monies that are then given to the children of these black caucus members for college tuition. Where is the much admired and ballayhooed free press? If these shennanigans had gone on under a Republican, the top of the General Assembly would still be spinning and the left wing press of NC would be on the fence rail crowing night and day.As it is, there has hardly been a bump in the road and no-one expects anthing to change. It’s time to throw the rascals out, publish what has gone on, if the press won’t do it the leadership must, close the slush funds and begin again.
Throw the rascals out? I’m sorry, apparently you’re unaware how state government has worked under Democrats for the past 100+ years. You see, under our unique system of government, the legislators pick who they want to be in their district. And yes, they pick people who will “vote” for them.
If there’s not enough people in their district, they just make the district smaller and put more “voters” in other districts. And if someone tries to vote for someone else, well, they’ll just make that illegal (any other party other than Dem or Rep; write-in votes, etc).
You see, it’s literally not possible to “vote the rascals out” in North Carolina, barring a HUGE uprising. The legislature will see to that. Democrats haven’t stayed in power for over 100 years because the majority are actually VOTING for them!
I’d say North Carolina must be the Gerrymandering capital of the South! So much government sanctioned corruption going on… kinda makes one sick.
I don’t accept that we can’t do anything about it. The whole point of my first comment was to suggest the press has failed-recall jefferson’s comment about the light of day. The job of the press is to highlight the abuses politicians commit while in office. I’ve listened ad nauseum to their claims of free speech and press and when the time comes to exercise that right all they can talk about is how backward the average person in this state happens to be or shift the attention to Washington. The power of the internet is to go over the heads of these “do-nothings” and begin to highlight what’s happening. To be candid, your attitude seems defeatist. Your blog has always taken on the rascals and now you appear to have thrown in the towel.
Oh, I’m not going to stop working to get rid of them — but I’m just pretty much Don Quixote. I’m going to fight them, but they have all the power, all the money, and all the control. Mostly, I’m sure they just laugh at me (if they know I exist) because they’re not scared.
The truth can only get you so far. In order to beat them, it’s going to take more than just me and words. I can start the words, I can expose the truth — but it’s going to take people who actually care — and that’s what’s in short supply today.
The vast majority are more concerned with getting little Johnny to soccer practice on time. Most people simply don’t care. Heck, ask any person who their state senator is, and I bet you’d get “Jesse Helms” more often than you’d get the right answer.
I think something more has to happen to make people sit up and take notice — and high taxes just isn’t it. Apparently committing felonies in office isn’t it, either. I don’t know what it will take, but it’s going to take something big in my opinion. But maybe we can change it one person at a time. I’ll just work on that for now.
