Heroin: Good. Marijuana: Bad.
Well, at least that’s how the AP is reporting the news out of Switzerland. If you read the news report, it appears that the citizens of Switzerland are supporting Heroin use, but opposing Marijuana. However, if you read a bit more into it, it’s much, much worse than that.
Instead, what the Swiss, in their direct democracy, are supporting, is the total socialization of illicit drug use. Yes, it’s not enough to socialize medicine, they are actually supporting socialized recreational drugs. How? By throwing you in jail if you use a recreational drug on your own, but if the state buys and administers the recreational drug, you’re perfectly okay.
This is just another way to see how bad running a government with socialism and without freedom can be. Acts like this, which we support more and more in America, show that there is one set of rules for regular people, and a completely different set of rules if you’re a member of the protected class: government. It’s wrong, no matter how you want to spin it. In a free country that’s run by laws (which neither America nor Switzerland are at this time), government does not purchase and administer recreational drugs; nor does it fine, jail, and kill people who do.
