It IS a Bailout
I just turned on C-Span. The Senators are lying their asses off. I wish there was just one person in that body with balls to stand up and call these bastards liars. Malkin’s got a little semi-live blogging going, too.
It’s a bailout. It takes cash from people who work, in the form of taxes, and gives them to companies. There is NO oversight. I read the bill. The Treasury Secretary is on the board that is given oversight! So you’re asking a person to watch himself — and that’s oversight.
I’ll do some live blogging and update this post as long as I can stomach these selfish bastards.
Bob Casey (D-PA) is a lying bastard — or he hasn’t read the bill and is supporting it because he’s been bribed to.
David Vitter (R-LA): He gets it — he knows this is a massive, massive, MASSIVE expansion of government. He says he’s voting no! Nice job, Senator Vitter. You have guts. He understands that the $700 billion IS taxpayer money. He even understand it’s about corruption and money. He says this is a dangerous action. I think he might have actually read the bill. He wants “real solutions,” not just things to help next week.
Senator Obama (D-IL): Following the party line: it’s a rescue because of Bush and Evil Capitalists. “Wall Street’s mistakes have put their tax dollars at risk.” No, lying bastard, miserable, selfish bastards in Congress are the ONLY ones who have put even one tax dollar at risk. He wants to put out a fire on a stove. ?? He thinks the stock market has fallen. Once again, that’s not true. Once again — the sky is falling, the world will end this second if this doesn’t pass in the next 2 minutes. He’s claiming that if they don’t take $700 billion from taxpayers, then people can’t buy cars and will all lose their job by Monday. Millions of jobs will be lost if they don’t take this $700 billion from working people NOW. Bush is a liar, etc… blah blah… This bill will protect taxpayers, but Bush didn’t want them. He’s actually claiming there’s an “independent board” to provide oversight. He hasn’t read the bill. That’s not in there. He’s claiming it’s not welfare for Wall Street — that’s a lie.
He’s claiming that it’s an “investment” for taxpayers. Wrong, that’s a lie, too. “We will get most of all of our money back, or even turn a profit, everything which will go back to the American people. If we fall short, we will put a fee on financial institutions.” Holy crap, he really, really doesn’t have a clue. If that were true (and it’s not), then he believes that if they spend the $700 billion and the people they give it to can’t pay it back, they’re going to FINE those people! The ones that are bankrupt. What an ass.
There might be better plans out there, but we can’t wait. We have to pass this right now or the sky WILL fall right now. Hell, I don’t know why they’re not voting for it this second, because it IS the end of the world. Waiting until 9pm will be disastrous, according to Obama. “Even if we get this in place, we still will have enormous problems in the economy.” Yes, he said that. “This is not the end, this is the beginning.” $700 billion? $700 trillion? It doesn’t matter to Obama. He will spend ANY amount of money he can. He wants to give CASH to people right now. He wants to give $700 billion to Wall Street, and an unknown amount of checks to anyone who “needs” money.
We MUST make homeowners stay in their homes. The bill, in case he hasn’t read it, gives government the power to let anyone stay in their home completely free, if the bureaucrat wants them to. This man really, really abhors freedom. And then he has the nerve to talk about “runaway spending” and “fiscal responsibility.” He wants to spend $700 billion this week and hundreds of trillions on giveaway welfare to “the poor” and corporations, and he thinks that’s “fiscally responsibility.”
He honestly has no clue how the economy works. Seriously, he does not know. He wants to give tax cuts and reduce spending and spend more and give away more. He wants to force companies to make education free and stop rising prices. He wants to force companies to reduce emissions and reduce prices. He wants people to “sacrifice.” He is a total and clueless dangerous fool.
Now he’s quoting FDR. Confidence is all we need to succeed. That’s all, says Obama. If that’s the case, you fool, how about not spending $700 billion of taxpayer money. He’s still talking, but not saying anything any more. I’m waiting for him to say “Hope and Change” will get us through. He’s wrapping up by promising that there will be much, much more to bailout after this one.
Senator DeMint (R-SC) He called it a bailout. I think that’s code for opposition. “This bill will do more harm than good.” Indeed, he gets it, too. “Our own government appears to be leading our country into the pit of socialism.” Yup, he really gets it. He sees government’s socialization of oil, natural gas, education, and other things. “Americans our our judge and jury” — holy crap, I didn’t think anyone still knew that there. “But we’re not being honest.” Good job. Very good job. He realizes that the problem was created by the government.
He understands the government forced banks to give bad loans to people who couldn’t afford them. He understands the sub-prime mortgage problem that the government created, especially via Freddie and Fannie. “Our foolish energy policies have caused a huge burden on families.” $750 billion a year to buy foreign oil. Interesting number there, huh? “We’re still spending money like there’s no tomorrow.” Heck, this guy almost sounds like Ron Paul on the Fed and the criminal activities — blaming the government as “the root cause of this crisis.”
He wants to sell Freddie and Fannie. He wants to reduce capital gains. He wants to focus on American investments instead of foreign ones. He wants to freeze spending and stop ALL earmarks. “We have caused a terrible financial mess.” He knows that with less laws and less government, Americans WILL get through this. “We must tell Americans the truth.” This guy is good. He honestly understands and admits what’s going on. I’m shocked that someone in the Senate would do that in public.
Bernie Sanders (socialist-VT) is just repeating the lines — “We MUST do something.” But he says he’s voting against it because the oversight board members were picked by Bush. He’s complaining that it doesn’t cancel enough mortgages for those who are in foreclosure. Apparently he wants MORE people to get free mortgages that this bill provides. He says this bill is no good because it doesn’t provide enough more heavy-handed regulation of companies. He says it’s bad because it allows people the freedom to earn money (golden parachutes should be illegal, I guess, according to Bernie).
He’s complaining because BankAmerica bought CountryWide. He thinks there are companies that are too big and apparently this bill should stop people from having companies that are bigger than he thinks they should be. No, he didn’t spell out exactly how big is “too big.” I think the guy behind Bernie just fell asleep. Someone nudged him.
Now Sanders is whining about Bush, and complaining that we’re not totally socialist. He says it’s not fair that some people own more than others. He thinks transfers of wealth are only good when he does it, not when people do it voluntarily. He’s complaining about some people earning “too much” money. Instead, apparently, only he can determine how much money each and every person should earn. I wasn’t aware one person could honestly hate freedom so much.
He’s still going on. He wants to raise income taxes by at least 10% to raise hundreds of billions of dollars. Bush is evil, blah, blah. He thinks it’s bad to earn bonuses because his constituents didn’t earn as much as the CEO of big corporations. I don’t understand why he’s not supporting this bill — he clearly LOVES socialism, and this bill has LOTS of socialism in it. But apparently he’s complaining it’s not socialist ENOUGH for him.
He wants to add an amendment to raise taxes to pay for the bailout. He’s claiming that middle class people don’t pay taxes, only the “rich” do.
Senator Sessions (R-AL): Starts out complaining about the one person with almost no oversight to spend $700 billion of America’s wealth. “I think we haven’t done a good enough job… and I’m not gonna vote for the thing.” Another one? Wow, I’m amazed, honestly. I thought this was going to pass the Senate something like 90-10 or something.
Update: Wow. Senator Dole actually voted No. I’m quite amazed and impressed. Unfortunately the other bum from North Carolina voted Yes. I think when I’m in DC Thursday and Friday I shall go call these people bastards to their faces. Someone needs to do it.
